There are many other strong breeds out there. I would opt for a Doberman since they have some elegance to them and a strong presence.

A friend had a Doberman. It was still a puppy in the juvenile stage of maturity. It was a nervous wreck and seem frightened a lot of the time. Ely treated him well. His nervousness was either a character trait or the dog was just shy because of his young age.

I've been around dogs almost all my life. When an infant and a puppy grow up together, there is a bond between them that's second to none. When I was four, my parents lived in West Field, New Jersey. At the end of our street, a Great Dane breeder resided. My mom told me how my friend, Hunter and I would somehow get in to where the dogs were and play with them. My experience with Great Danes is that they are extremely loving and gentle. I've had two fawns and one brindle Dane. all three were female. They were really great, sweet dogs. Unfortunately, they have a relatively short lifespan.

What about all the pitbulls that are raised from day one by loving families, yet they still are violent.

What about children who are raised from day one by loving parents, yet some still grow up and do bad things? I'm not challenging you. I am just wondering about this and though you might have some input.

My only negative encounter with a Bull Terrier happened when I was a teen. A dog looking exactly like the one pictured below was attacking a young girl. He wasn't trying bite her or maul her; he was attempting to mount her despite her cries of terror. Of course the dog's owner was nowhere around. With much difficulty the girls mom and I finally succeeded in getting the dog off her and were able to scare it off. He was determined and completely focused on success. This is not a pleasant memory.



General Grant or Jiggs was one of many dogs who played Petey on The Little Rascals.  All of them Staffordshire Terriers.

Do you always go to the extremes to stereotype people? My guess is that neither of your examples accurately describes the majority of Pit Bull owners, but I might be wrong.
