all you powerlifters....
« on: April 12, 2006, 11:40:37 PM »
Why do so many of you were those old ass chuck taylor shoes?

Also, is it really necessary to bring bags of equipment and attach chains on the effin bench press or the squat while you and your partner literally take 30 minutes to do about 10 reps.

i dont really get powerlifting, i mean id rather train my ass off and have a muscular, symmetrical physique and abs rather than have the satisfaction of knowing i can bench this or squat that.  a lot of you all are big i know but there are some who can bench a fuckin house and just look blocky with a gut
Valhalla awaits.

join a fitness center. (not "centre", unless you are a dirty brit)???

Why. i lift hard, i do deadlifts, squats, pushpress, cleans, a lot of core movements no machine bullshit.  im just sayin is it really necessary to bring in massive equipment, have special shirts. no its not, fuck that get in there and lift.  i hate seeing these fags with their belts and special shirts and they still cant lift as much as me or my lifting partner.  take up power racks for long ass time.
Valhalla awaits.

Powerlifters could say the same about you. Its a different "sport" altogether. You are training to better your physique and the powerlifters just want to lift. Accept that you are training for totally different reasons and let it go!

Many of the top powerlifters of the 70's and 80's incorporated both bodybuilding and powerlifting into their training. Larry Pacifico trained 6 days a week, 3 days bodybuilding and 3 days powerlifting. He would only rest around 30 seconds between sets, even when handling 500 lb on the bench. Mel Hennessey, Mike MacDonald, and Bill Kazmaier also did a lot of "bodybuilding style" training.

Today's powerlifters don't do enough endurance training. They don't train with enough volume, which is why they can't lift dick without their bench and squat suits. The whole sport is a joke.

I disagree.. Usually the bench shirts/ squat suits are used for competition only. I have many friends who are powerlifters and only use these in competition. One of my friends is a world champion in his weight class (90kg) and believe me he can lift enormous poundages without the shirt/suit.

if you really believe that Pacifico took 30 seconds between sets of 500 lb. benches you're a dumbass.

chuck taylors are because the shoe has a flat, rubber sole. yes the chains and bands are necessary. yes the slow pace is necessary because the cns needs time to recharge. its a matter of priority. do you want more to be strong, or big?

brianx, clearly you're retarded. kennelly can bench in the mid to high 600s raw without much trouble, siders can do 630 easily, guys are squatting in the high 900s with just wraps and a belt, and andy bolton pulled 930 in just a singlet. volume? ever heard of metal militia training?

like shock said, a lot of guys train purely raw until a few weeks out of a meet.

cavalier was talking about these gay ass wannabe's who have a 365-405 lb. squat, similar deadlift and a 285 lb. bench who feel the need to bring in a gym bag the size of a VW bug with every lifting accesory known to man and take up the racks and benches for half the day, he didn't mean beasts like Siders or Kennelly.

are you saying that powerlifters consider eating 1 large pizza instead of 2 to be dieting, showstoppa?

See how moronic it sounds? Any chance you could stop posting the same crap over and over again.
You realize of course the guys whose asses you kiss (Shawn, Bob and DA) don't give a schit about you. Or do you even care? I bet your the type of guy that brags to his mother about Shawn Ray posting on the same thread you posted on.

Or do you think that Shawn and Bob are typing you cryptic messages.

For instance, when Shawn types that Onlyme is fat do you think he's actually telling you that he loves you?

Typical powerlifter breakfast....

3 large, all-meat pizzas with Mayonaise on top
Bucket of tater-tots with Ranch dressing for dipping.
Washed down with a room temperature vat of butter.

I wish I could eat like a powerlifter all the time, seriously. I love when I take a break and eat crazy amounts of food, I get strong as hell and feel great in the gym. Problem is after a couple of weeks I look like pacman.

powerlifting gear and federation proliferation has crapped up the sport, but it still exists in appreciable form in some venues...

the same could be said, though, with "site injections" and hGH crapping up bodybuilding....

Exactly!

i wear addidas flats but many powerlifters use the taylors because of that very reason.

Bands and chains help you with lockout strength which is important to a "power"lifter.

powerlifting and bodybuilding are very different. also not all powerlifters are fat bald bastards with pizza stains on their shirt. many of us are MORE strict when it comes to diet than most pumpers, remember that there are strict weight classes for powerlifting and you want to be at the top of your class. the guys i train with are leaner than most of the bodybuilders at my gym and when it comes to cardio i can smoke 99% of the people at my gym.

shirts and suits are used to prepare for the meet. usually start using them around 8 weeks out.

I don't understand how some people can make fun of bodybuilders for being obsessed with how they look and stepping on a stage oiled up posing in a "speedo" AND THEN go about making fun of powerlifters who are as big as bodybuilders and a shit-load stronger who couldn't give a f**k about how they look.

Powerlifters/stronmen are true warriors and the gladiators of our time
