It is not uncommon for senior actors to accept roles they never would have at the height of their career. This might be even more true of those who once were considered 'hot properties'.  For many older actors the pickings are slim.

Yes, you are right. Thing with DeNiro though is he was so good in some films in the 70's and 80's and even 90's, films where he played iconic characters and gained massive respect for being a 'proper' actor for lack of a better term. He was respected and went into a very rare class with people like Nickolson, Pacino, Brando, etc. Seeing him acting all goofy and stupid now, doing really idiotic and crass stuff, I can't help feeling sorry that he has been stripped of that reputation and has been revealed as another false idol.

When I first watched the video which went up on the Internet immediately, I thought bravo. De Niro had the courage to vocalize what a lot of people including me feel about Trump. On reflection today I have a problem with what De Niro did at last night's Tony Awards. I am sick of folks using other platforms such as award shows for inappropriate purposes/rants. Furthermore, I do not approve of the vocalization of vulgarities in public. I was raised to believe it is rude and ill-mannered. So it's thumbs down from me on De Niro's performance/stunt last night.
