Confused. Have Manion and Santoja patched up their differences? Why is Santoja passing out trophies at an Elite Pro completion?

No.

The IFBB Elite PRO calendar is growing separated. This first year has +1.000.000 dollars in prizes. From Mongolia to Canada, Aruba, Paraguay, Austria, Southafrica, Spain, Italy, Poland, Mexico, China, Greece, Russia, Slovakia, Malta etc... and confirmed USA in 2019.

US is the only country where common people ignore this movement... Up to now...

In an unofficial attempt to clarify NEPTUNO's post regarding two separate and distinct IFBB's (see above) here's an attempt to clarify it.

PS ... I am no inside expert regarding this subject matter as it recently occured so please consider the following to be my unofficial estimate based on personal observations, involvements,   and 'rememberances'.

Any accurate corrections or additions would be appreciated!

Many years ago I attended the official meeting in which the NPC and the IFBB agreed to recognize each other. That meeting took place in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, but I have long forgotten the date.

At that meeting the NPC agreed to recognize the IFBB as the official governing body of professional bodybuilders and contests held within the USA as well as world-widw  and the IFBB would recognize the NPC as the official governing body of all amateur bodybuilfding events within the USA and its possessions.

This meeting was attended by the vast majority of bodybuilding promoters, magazine owners, etc, so there were many in attendance who verbosely disagreed but Ben Weider spoke eloquently and won the vote to co-exist.

So with that agreemebt neither organization was stepping on the other's toes and agreed to co-exist peacefully.

Jim Manion was the National NPC Chairman ... or was soon  to be ... and over his years in office  you can be assured that he did a hell of a good job over-seeing its growth beyond anyone's expectations.

So as a result of that official meeting Joe Weider as the President of the IFBB was sanctioning professional bodybuilding events worldwide as well as amateur bodybuilding events outside of the USA  but not within the USA,

And Jim was overseeing the sanctioning of NPC  (amateur) events within the USA.

TO BE CONTINUED if there is any interest ...

IT DOES GET INTERESTING ..

So they have not patched up and both Manion and Santoja are running competitions in various locations called “IFBB Pro Elite”? Quite confusing if true. And Arnold doesn’t care and swings both ways on this? I’m guessing competitors themselves have no understanding of any of this. Maybe it doesn’t really matter for them, but corporate politics can be interesting, especially when it’s multi-national in nature.

Same exact thing Arnold would say at any Arnold Classic anywhere. Sheds no light on any of the organizational politics going on.

Is it still "classic" with this many fuckin Arnolds? Doesn't classic suggest some sort of uniqueness or special value you don't see that often?

MPH, Like many others (myself included) you fail to understand that although there are two separate IFBB's ... the IFBB managed by Jim Manion is referred to as the "IFBB Professional League" and the other IFBB managed by Rafael is called "IFBB Pro Elite" and to the best of my knowledge they are both separate entities of which I am about 99.5% certain.

As of this present time it appears that the "IFBB Professional League"as managed by Jim Manion only sanctions IFBB Pro events within the US but possibly plans to expand within foreign areas.

(Didn't Chick provide MC services in a recent IFBB Pro event in England earlier this year? But I am unaware if other foreign entities are in the process of or planning to promote IFBB Pro League events within their foreign jurisdiction.)

Arnold is associated with both IFBB organizations. I suppose it is because Arnold is Arnold and also due to his past association with both Jim and Rafael.

Ok, In an effort to continue with this historic (but possibly a BIT inaccurate) bodybuilding organizational stuff, you have to realize that competitive bodybuilding events promoted and held within the US (as well as world-wide) were much smaller than they are today.

In most cases regional contests would have 12 - 15 contestants and those in the audiance were mainly family and gym members who were there to offer support.

In the vast majority of cases you had to be a family member or gym associate of one of the contestants to even be aware that such event was being held or even existed.

So there was little or absolutely no interest among the general public.

Many now say that is was Pumping Iron that opened their eyes and also the popularity of some guy from Austria with a funny accent who a magazine publisher  by the name of Joe Weider introduced to the US and made him popular.

That'a all argumentative but it is a fact that the NPC and its membership gradually grew.

But the IFBB membership remained somewhat stagnant as per Joe Weider's desire.

Apparently his magazines were doing well enough to carry the IFBB  so he kept that membersip relatively smaller than it is today.

Actually .... a hell of a lot smaller!

So the NPC grew gradually and the IFBB membership was maintained so that it only included the best of the best with just enough members to maintain an event called "Mr. Olympia".

But then Ben passed away and shortly therefter  he was followed by his brother Joe ... and then everything changed.

More to follow ....

My bad, I got IFBB Elite Pro and IFBB Professional League names mixed up. For a while there, I thought the two organizations were both using same name. It just proves how confusing the branding is. Time will tell.

The “National League” of baseball clubs was established in 1876, one of at least a half dozen competing leagues east of the Mississippi at the time. Its biggest rival, the American Association, merged with it in 1892. In 1894, Ban Johnson purchased the struggling “Western League”, eventually renaming it the “American League”, which did so well it challenged the National League for dominance. In 1902 the NL agreed to merge with the AL and become Major League Baseball.

There. That’s the entire history of the MLB, a 140+ year old organization with hundreds of millions of fans & billions in revenue. How you’re turning a bunch of schmoes watching oiled men in thongs into the biggest corporate thriller since the Enron scandal is truly, truly beyond me.

In this new IFBB Professional calendar, the criteria standard is different from the Pro League, of course. Bellies, paloumbism and oil is penalized...
