There was a time CNN was a good news network, long before Fox came along. They had political discussion shows like The Capital Gang, spirited debate programming that featured equal camera time to guests and hosts on the left and right (Crossfire), and level-headed, tough anchors like Leon Harris, Lou Dobbs, Jack Cafferty and Aaron Brown (who covered 9/11 live for them) that made it a genuinely great network to watch. Then AOL-Time Warner acquired the company.
What happened next was a handful of extreme-left socialist millionaires put their hands on its creative department and executive positions and pulled the hand brake on that business model, rerouting it on a new track with the single-minded objective of destroying everything and anything that isn't liberal. The top talent left for other networks, alienated by the obligation of parroting everything the producers told them to do. It's headed down a very dark tunnel with no light in sight at the moment, as almost every show is opinion-based and no longer focused on reporting the facts, or inviting guests that have opposing views to the viewers. Their chyrons are occasionally absurd and set the sarcastic tone for what the talking heads will say on the shows, things like "Report: Trump hatred throughout UK during visit" etc.
Fox News, for all its flaws, absolutely does invite left wing intellectuals and personalities on ALL its shows, even if it's just for shock value when the hard-right hosts tangle with them on almost every point (Carson, Ingraham, Shapiro). Fox News IS more balanced than CNN, I don't give a fuck what anyone says. Watch CNN or MSNBC for one day and watch FNC for another. The difference is obvious, and it's why politicians avoid the former two like the plague.
