Corvette ZR1 can’t put the power down like the GT2 RS, no Ring Times, etc.And now you have YouTube influencers like Superspeed 717 selling his ZR1 because he’s bored with it, and that he raves about his McLaren 720s.

Chris Harris’ new vid on the Ferrari Pista

My thoughts on the Corvette Zora. That the rear wing will make or break the car. The C8.R sounds great.

Mustang GT500 might be the surprise of the year, in terms of performance cars.

The 720 is faster than advertised, I’ve worked on a few customer cars, it’s VERY fast

The zr1 got beat by a NA 6 cylinder gt3 RS in the ring haha

I had a friend who went to the Chevrolet dealer and tried to explain to the sales man that no Chevy is worth $120,000 when he saw the sticker on the ZR1.  I really believe they're trying to make the car more exotic and super car like to justify the enormous price.

GM faces an uphill battle when their vehicles start getting $80K plus.

The perception of GM makes some of the pricing tough to take based on the brand’s heritage.

The CTS-V had topped the M5’s performance, yet it was short lived and didn’t meet sales expectations .  At a certain price point, the prestige of a vehicle is a major factor aside from outright performance .  A $100K+ C8 is a big leap from new C7 coupes which can be had nicely equipped for $65k.

To make matters worse, the typical $100K vehicle shopper has certain dealership expectations that few GM stores are able to provide.  This will work against a supercar Corvette as a viable option to a $100k Porsche, AMG, M series, etc...

If the cost of entry for the C8 is 100K, GM will end up ruining their niche.  They have to have plans for a separate front engined “C7.5” that they will introduce in addition to the mid engined version.  Too much volume would be lost due to exclusionary pricing.  They have a proven formula and gobs of R&D in front engined / pushrod V8 platforms.

If it doesn't look like a 'vette, it ain't a vette.   If it looks like some MR2 had revenge sex with a Cagiva Allazura or worse yet, some ghetto'd out Caddimalac, well then FTN.

As far as price is concerned, yes there is a certain cachet associated with the higher end of fine automobiles and the Corvette has never really occupied that space because it has always been first and foremost THE American Muscle car.  A reachable goal for young American men.

True, sir.

Alas that it's more of a "snow-globe" given the flakes that seem to be everywhere.  ;D  I know Ford weirded up the Mustang to appeal to those outside Amurica.  I don't like the body of the current version of that one at all.   Not even the convertible.

Zora Arkus-Duntov, who basically was the father of the Corvette had wanted a mid engine Vette since the 60s. The first mid engined corvette concept was the Cerv II in 1964.
The Corvette was America’s SPORTS Car, not a muscle car. And in fact, the Thunderbird had stolen the Corvette’s thunder during SCCA races in the 50s.

I am aware of that but I also know we called it the sweetest muscle car around in the 60s.  Yeah...It is a "sports" car but for us that didn't sound nearly as bitchin' as "muscle car".  The T-Bird got neutered by Ford.  I've heard they (Ford) are thinking about doing a 4-door 'stang.  FTN.

As a semi-related aside, my dad had a Corvair.  The only car designed to look like an electric razor. We went to Disneyland a few times in it back in the 60s.

The Corvair Monza was a great looking car. America’s Porsche 911 (rear engine, flat 6). Ralph Nader killed it.

ROFLAMO-GT2 RS  300 grand.

What happens when you put 170,000 dollars into a new ZR1 to equal the price?

ZR1 vs GT2RS stock for stock is a drivers race anyways, but alas, the Porsche will break and the service is a joke.

Corvette for the win hands down in all areas.

This is America.  German cars are for immigrants.

Doesn’t work that way, you of all people should know this.

While Porsche is having breaking sales, GM is going through ceos starting with caddy, the world doesn’t see American cars as profitable or desirable, this isn’t the 40’s, 50’s or 60’s anymore

Yes, that’s why your beloved American car companies are next to being extinct soon

Zr1 got beat by a “lowly” gt3rs not a gt2

There is a 720S near me, looks like an alien space craft.

I think that the ZR1 has too much torque to put down. If the bean counters would have allowed it, I think far more extensive use of carbon fiber, plus a DCT, and better electronics could have helped the ZR1. But, then it might upstage the base C8. The C7 ZR1 is like the F12/812’s little American brother who got into his Italian brother’s steroid stack, starting squatting, and now is too leg dominant.

Very true.  The C4 was lackluster and don’t get me started on the Starsky & Hutch C3 era.

Another possibility with mid engined C8 model is a run of mid-engine cars that lasts for a few years only and would help command the price premium.

GM has done this in the past with original 1990 ZR-1 with Mercury Marine built 32 valve DOHC V8 instead of traditional pushrod SBC.  That was a HUGE change, commanded a very large price premium and ended in 5 years.  The 90-95 ZR-1 models still have collectibility value today.

Fox body 5.0 Mustangs from 1980s and 1990s were faster then vettes in the same era.

also i would say the buyer of the Vette has changed. i live in Baby Boomer heaven and stereotype of old guys as vette owners is changing for sure

You also have to understand that many older Jewish people, like TA, will never feel fully comfortable buying a German vehicle. The memories of the Holocaust are still to fresh for some.
