Front engine = Engine between front wheels / front of car - IE most cars
Rear engine = Engine between rear wheel / back of car - IE Porsche 911’s
Mid engine = Engine behind drivers / front seats - Ahead of rear wheel - IE Audi R8

My brother, who was a car guy, had a Porsche 911 back in the mid 70s. It was jet black and I remember the engine being in the rear and being air cooled. Sweet ride and a pussy magnet for a guy in his mid twenties. He treated it like it was the Christ child.
