"Where do they get their money? Can friends and relatives just send them cash? And can you just sleep as much as you want? I thought they forced you to work a job"
Yes, friends and family can send them money. You also have to realize that some cons were very wealthy on the street, and that money will translate over to prison as long as they have someone on the street taking care of them.
Well that really depends. All inmates in my facility get 2 program mods a day. Say for example you have the 2nd and 3rd mod for program, you would be able to sleep until noon, and then go back to sleep as early as you wanted. Being a worker in the gym is also considered a program, so you could go to the gym, get done your job and then workout. This is what lots of the biggest cons want to have as their program.
With that said, this schedule is obviously not guaranteed. You could also have mod 1 and 4, which would mean you would be in program by 8am and not done until 10pm. Definitely not as ideal.
"How do they shave their faces in prison? Do they allow an inmate to keep razors or do they give you a razor to shave and then take it right back? Can you shave your balls? (no homo)"
Holy fuck no! They are given them 2 times daily, and must give them back within the time frame. Each razor is inspected and put up against a magnet to assure it hasn't been tampered with.
I can saw that in all my time I have never seen that! LOL! Prison is VERY homophobic in general, and if anyone was seen doing that they would be looked at as a mook (prison slang for fag). Maybe some have done it in the bathroom, but definitely not in plain view.
"Why even bother with 'suicide watch'?
If they want to kill themselves, let them, less expenses and hassle"
Granted I don't work in a state with the death penalty, so I've never spoken to a con on death row. But in my situation almost all of the inmates that wanted to hurt themselves were either extremely mentally ill, or going through something that they couldn't handle.
This guys situation is much different. In the video he appears to be well spoken of sound mind, and most likely just doesn't want to live the rest of his life going back and forth in court in regards to either his life or death. All the while being on a constant suicide watch. Honestly I can't blame him, that would be hell on earth!
It's easy to say that, and even as a guard I can agree in certain situations. when an inmate commits suicide the state is in for some serious shit from the family of the deceased! Officers often get in trouble as well, depending on what type of situation the inmate was in.
