SCOTT, NO! It was in honor of/homage to the first Super comic book cover in which Supe holds a car over his head.

See above comic book  cover.

SCOTT< I could be wrong ... you could be right about that picture with my nephew and Supe.

Upon closer look ... it appears that Routh is rigged up to be lifted from the sound-stage. If you look closely you can see the rigging and Ter is holding his arms as if he is holding a globe which Supe eventually does during the shoot.

Supe would not have to be rigged up for that car lifting shot ... but the car would need to be.

I'll ask to see who is correct, (I now think that you were!) but he also did work on the scene which did pay homage to Supe's first comic book cover shot.

I'll ask later on today. He did a lot of work in Australia (or was it New Zealand?) in that one. Mostly the Kent farm scenes and water tower jumping(?) if I recall correctly.

Henry Cavill is was a perfect fit for Superman,  the guy is a decent actor,  good looking (no homo), and perfect build for the role. Muscular enough to portray the character, but not overly juiced up. Maybe some of the other Superheroes could have been better cast, but Cavill had the perfect look. Which is probably why he is in talks to play James Bond.

Yes, of the current crop of actors, i don't think anyone else could do Superman more justice than Cavill.

Who else?

Colin Farrell? Johnny Depp? Danny DeVito? Woody Allen? Gerard Butler? The Rock? Statham? Jackie Chan? Jon Snow? Jason Momoa? Peter Dinklage? Melissa McCarthy? Samuel L Jackson? Jude Law? Tom Holland? Mark Ruffalo? Adrian Brody? Tom Hardy? Will Ferrell? Robert Downey Jr? Sly Stallone? Dolph? Harrison Ford? Affleck? Matt Damon? Bruce Willis? Tom Cruise? Liam Neeson?

Name one!

This looks as Supes as it gets compared to that rabble!

Love Thomas Jane (not in Predator though), but not even he could do Superman justice.

There's a bunch of younger actors who could play Superman. Zac Efron has the body and looks to carry the role. Any of the Hemsworth brothers work as does Alex Pettyfer, Tyler Hoechlin, Robbie Amell, Colton Haynes, Arnie Hammer and Steven R. McQueen, grandson of the late Steve McQueen.

Well it looks like I gotta disagree with all you guys!

And since I seem to be the only outside-insider with all the loose motion picture making connections, I'm gonna recommend that Hollywood pick a complete unknown to fill  Supe's boot or Superboy's boots if he does in fact wear boots....  and laugh all the way to the bank if I get an apppropriate casting agent fee.

If I meet anyone of importance in Starbuck's, at this moment of time I'm gonna recommend the Russian IFBB guy, so if you know him or if The Coach trains him or anyone supplies him with muscle growth stuff ... tell him to get to acting class and prepare to sign up for at least $4,000,000 for his first Supe role which will require him to be in Louisiana, USA, for 3 months immediately after the contract is salt and peppered and signed.

Prime,

Zac Efron is 5'8 and looked like a manlet next to the rock. I'm not sure I would consider anything about him as super.

Armie Hammer is 6' 5" with the right facial cues and could handle the role but Cavil is doing just fine.

No competitive bodybuilders, please.  They're stoopid, retarded, ungrateful and just plain drugged up dumb.  FTN.

SCOTT, Isn't Armie Hammer one of the principle heir to the Arm & Hammer product fortune?

Or is it just his name that causes my confusion?

I know he's from a well off family but not sure if they're connected to that family.   I enjoyed his performance in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Armie Hammer is the great grandson of Armand Hammer, the Billionaire...

As a side note...regarding Arm & Hammer Baking Soda...At first there was no relation.  However, the Senior Armand Hammer was always being asked if he was the Baking Soda King...When the opportunity came up, he bought sufficient shares of stock to get on the board...... as a joke, so he could say yes....and yes, it was reported that he made money off of the deal.

Would be silly and laugh inducing when they delivered their lines.

Superman doesn't need giant muscles.

His strength comes from his molecular density. The fact that he is an alien of a different galaxy, hailing from a planet with far heavier gravity than Earth.

The muscles are nonsense.

As long as he is not fat or underweight/skinny.

What is needed is the chiseled face, height 6'2" to 6'4", and blue eyes.

Well, maybe not blue eyes since Routh wore colored-contacts.

Once that is done, you need the guy to be able to act.

But most of all, you need a damn script that isn't shit.

There hasn't been a good Superman movie since Superman II.

Cavil fit Superman perfectly physically but is an awful actor or the movies were just written terribly.

Absolutely no charisma whatsoever.

SCOTT, It's been many years since I've seen that Superman/Steroid issue, but what's most interesting is the time in which it was published.

It was the time when the use of roids outside of the bodybuilding world was relatively unknown and not considered to be a 'source of evil' by those within it.

And then Supe comic fans read and saw Supe enter a cosmic steroid cloud (or something like that) and get so damn musclebound that he has difficulty moviing  and not-destroying everything he came in contact with (or something like that).

It's been many years ago, so 'something like that' is a necessity.

Comic book kids most likely did not understand the parody, but the older brothers who lifted heavy things looked upon Supe with high regards.

That's how much steroids and their usage were 'respected' way back then .... way before they became a 'menice to society ang Getbiggers in general'.

Anyone have a copy of that Supe comic?

Most regular sized guys look like manlets as compared to Wayne who 6'5" and built.. Like most folks Zac looks different in various photos. He's also rather metro looking which isn't going to appeal to most men who are superman fans. Women on the other hand, might go for Zac over Wayne. The original actors who played superman had fairy standard physiques. George Reeves was 6'2" tall and had an unremarkable physique as I remember. Steve Reeves was impressive as superman in many aspects. His stature was great at 6'4" and 225 lbs. He best captured the altruistic sincerity of the character and he was also able to embody Clark Kent in more ways than just donning a pair of glasses.

He'll need a box to stand on and short co-stars.  ;)

Not sure how he'd look as Clark Kent. He does have a great sense of humor.

It's interesting how we all think differently on what
Superman should look like in a Hollywood production and who should be cast in the role, but I fail to agree with any recommendation any of us have made so far ... except for that Russian contender.

And I have to agree with DESOLUTE that Cavill was terrible and they should have used a card-board cut-out of him as Supe and thereby saved a few million.

But I do agree that he did do a good job in the most recent Mission Impossible production.

Once again I'm no expert regarding this topic, but I do know that Hollywwod has been showing some intetest in introducing Superboy in one of these super-hero flicks but has been experienceing a few legal difficulties that prevent filming.

BUT ... Apparently Hollywood agents have been pondering a few actors who are completely unknown by me.

I'll post some names here to see if you have any pro or con remarks or some inside scoop regarding whom Supe as a youger kid will eventually be in prime consideration.

Although I put in my 2 cents regarding Superman, I probably would not go to the theater to see a Superman movie. Action movies are a bit boring to me. I outgrew Superman a very long time ago.

Steve Reeves and Wayne?

Look again, it's George Reeves not Steve Reeves. Steve Reeves was in 'sword and sandal" films. He never played Superman, probably because he couldn't act.

Steve Reeves

George Reeves

Like some of you GetBiggers, I am also no longer a Superman movie fan ... nor have I seen a Supe comic book sinc the one in which he die, BUT ... I would definitely pay three bucks (cheap ticket prices here in Vegas) if some new and anknown character got the role ....just to see if Hollywood agrees with what I personally think that Superman should look like.

BTW ... I do have friends who regularly work on and within these superhero productions ...but I no longer know anyone in the 'casting offices'.

But as some of you more knowlegeable GetBiggers know .... the William Morris Endeavor (WME) agency bought the UFC for four-billion dollars (some say five-billion) so it is possbly that you will be seeing MMA fighters  in major roles within major Hollywood productions ... soon ... if not already.
