I suggest you do not move to Lawrence, MA unless you speak Spanish. It is clearly the dominate language there. Stay in Hawaii because English is the official language spoken in government functions.

Eighty-two percent of Lawrence, MA's population is Spanish speaking. Apparently, it is not insane to Lawrence's speaking folks who voted for Brian De Peña. In 2021 he got 53% of the vote. His opponent, Kendrys Vasquez was also born in the Dominican Republic. He got 46% of the vote. There were no other candidates.

Brian De Peña was re-elected Mayor last November. Brian's opponent was Juan "Manny" Gonzalez who was born in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico's native language is Spanish.

There is no state law requiring English fluency to become Mayor of Lawrence, MA.

Sure. But then I don't live in Lawrence, MA and therefore could not vote in their last two Mayoral elections, so what I think is irrelevant. It is what the folks of Lawrence think that counts. Apparently, his lack of fluency in English is not a problem for them.

As a resident of West Linn, in 2023 I voted for Rory Bialostosky, who is a longtime resident of West Linn. He was elected to the City Council in 2020 when he was 21 years old. He is fluent in English and also an intelligent fellow. His young age isn't a problem for me either.

West Linn is a city, but it is also a suburb of Portland. So understandably, I care about who the people choose to be Portland's Mayor. Do I care about who is the Mayor of every U.S. city? Not in any significant way because to do this is unrealistic.

I never said anything about people not having the right to vote for the candidate of their choice.  Of course they do.  Sometimes voters make retarded choices, like repeatedly putting the man in office who was afraid Guam would tip over because of the military equipment on the island.  Or the people who repeatedly vote for Adam Schiff, Swalwell, and Newsom.  Or the people who just elected a socialist to be NYC mayor. 

That said, it's still anti-American to elect a mayor of an American city who cannot speak or understand English. It's one of the craziest political things I have ever heard.
