Oh I’m sorry, are you in the roofing industry? I was for over 20 years as I’ve said on here MANY times. Don’t believe everything the internet tells you. Keiwit are general contractors that generally sub out their contractors (roofing, HVAC, etc).

When the work comes from public works and major construction plus being a union shop and being in business for over 20 years, it adds up quick especially with a good rep.

Your turn

So, that’s $50 to $100 million over 20 years? You never said that; it’s a much more reasonable amount. The way you wrote it suggested $50-$100 million per year, which was what caught my attention.

And no, I’m not in the contracting business; nor do I need to be to identify the absurdity of a roofing contractor making $50,000,000 in sales per year. $2,500,000 is reasonable.

My reply? Learn how to properly express your thoughts and how to read.

Please, residential-only roofing contractors, that are non-union do a hell of a lot more than that.

Anyone that says this hasn't done an acquisition, a merger, or even understands calculations on EBITDA margins.

There is no way I could grasp what I learned getting my MBA online. lol so stupid

That may be true for you - but I have done fairly well and honestly don’t feel like I use any of my collegiate learning. I think having been exposed to so many types of people may help in the public speaking part of what I do but I think the Marine Corps gave me the discipline and confidence needed for getting where I have in banking / finance.

Absolutely anyone can become wealthy with ZERO university

I subcontract jobs to two groups of Hispanic American's as a side gig / hobby and we do $230,000.

It is, he's somewhere between there. Workers comp on hot work is astronomical. Not sure what it is now but used to be 100%

If you're a good employer you rarely have to worry about "that type" of employee (whatever that means)

Dude, what? You’re complaining because my original post and comments didn’t address an edit you made after I posted? Do you understand how time and temporal succession works?

I addressed a problem with your original post. If you went back and corrected your text in response to that, that’s fine and dandy but criticizing me for addressing the flaws in your original post is crazier than some of the shit the Democrats are saying on the debate stage right now!

Yes, because your response to a comment I made about what you said, your response basically was: “I changed what I said so your comments are wrong! Ha! Gotcha!”

I have a feeling both you or XFACTOR have never got your hands dirty in your lives. lol

Does it really matter if I have? Would it somehow make me more credible? Would I somehow be a better person if my job involved building roofs instead of computer science?

I work in Academia. I know you think I breathe rarified air and are scared shitless of what I do in my comfortable office, high up in my ivory tower. I know that you see me and other academics as enemies. It’s typical of the small-minded.

You’ve got a good physique Joe. But you’re using every muscle except the one that counts.

A better title for this thread would be "Does everyone need to go to college"

The answer to that would be no

Some people (perhaps most) should definitely go, but like everything else in the world that doesn't mean it's right for everyone

Tradesmen have real education, something you dont have. They have a skilled craft, that requires 4-5 years of schooling and training  before they are licenced.

Maybe you should try going to school for four years and get an actual education before you bash people with real skill sets. What you have is a job role, not an actual career. A placement no different then a cashier becoming a McDonalds supervisor after there committment.

Tradesman get their education while working at the job and its paid for by the company to get licensed.  Or for someone fixing cars, it's a minimal amount of time.

At no point I was bashing people but I certainly dont have some job role...took 2 years to train for the position I have outside of the many years I spent in the telecom industry along with the ability to fix and check phone lines, train people, and handle employee issues.   That even goes for a McDonalds supervisor who has to be good at finances, managing inventory and other issues

My point is to not go to college if you have no applicable reason to do so or just to go to "find yourself " like most liberal jackasses do....otherwise you'll end up with some worthless degree in English or crystal healing and have a job working as a waiter while having 200k in student debt.  If I could turn back time, I'd be that fucking lineman but I accept the decisions I made in life

100% spot on assessment Vince. People often go to college because they "think they should go to college". And then they end up with a mountain of debt that is nearly impossible to pay back. When my tech biz was in Arizona I hired over the span of 10 years 30-40 college graduates from Arizona State University. Most had no freaking clue what they were doing- and that included students with 4+ GPAs.

My absolute best employees were either self taught or two year degree graduates. And I'm in the semiconductor industry where the demands are very high for product performance. The very best training you can get is on the job because text books are at least 5 years behind the tech if not more.

I would argue that very few (who wish to build true wealth) should waste 4-6 years and $100,000 + in debt

It's absolutely sickening! The smart independent thinkers who realize there is something wrong with that system are made to feel bad for questioning it.

And they are punished by not getting the good jobs because they refuse to sit through the bullshit.

True, a person who hates and does poorly in school should not go to college.  It makes no since to waste money on tuition if nothing comes out of it.

Depends on the person, not a must. I barely made it out of HS, straight D student, was too concerned w/ girls, lifting, beer drinking.
Didn't go to college.

Been in IT Networks/Security for 25 years now, last 20 at this same job (though company was bought and sold 8 times). They started everyone at 100K back in 1999/2000.
So salary grew. Many of us from the initial startup are still there, why leave a cush, high paying gig?

(Hired in the startup of craze of late 90's, early 2K, made it thru the burst-bubble of tech, back in early 2K's).

For some, college can be great for ones career. We get lots of co-op students in each summer in the internet engineering programs, many are hired full-time after college.
(Into a high paying, cush job). I put my 2 kids thru college as I wanted them to have that degree, go on internships (one went to S. Korea for 10-week internship).

I'm on the back nine now, w/ 7-10years left to work, but I landed a good job/life w/out college. Some are different.
