Report: Fiat Chrysler Agrees to Merge With Groupe PSA
By Matt Posky on October 30, 2019

According to The Wall Street Journal, sources with first-hand knowledge have confirmed the companies are already moving forward on the union — effectively creating the world’s fourth largest automaker by volume.

While both companies have confirmed that they’ve been in talks, neither was willing to verify that a merger is afoot. But they got pretty close. “Following recent reports on a possible business combination between Groupe PSA and FCA Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. … confirms there are ongoing discussions aimed at creating one of the world‘s leading mobility Groups. FCA has nothing further to add at this time,” explained FCA.

PSA’s response was eerily similar, as if they had already begun coordinating on their messaging.

WSJ said PSA’s supervisory board was meeting on Wednesday to discuss the potential deal, apparently with everyone walking out giving the thumbs up — figuratively speaking, of course. We don’t even know if they use the thumbs up in France. It might be all mouth pops and snaps to show approval over there.

8.7 Million vehicles per year

Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel, Vauxhall, Fiat, Alfa, Maserati, Lancia, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram

If they manage this merger right they can create a more profitable comany.  They need to create a modular platform similar to Volkswagens MQB.

Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot reach deal to merge

Peugeot maker PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler confirmed they are in talks to create the world’s fourth-largest automaker.

The confirmation of the talks comes about five months after Fiat Chrysler ended merger discussions with PSA’s French rival, Renault.

Fiat Chrysler, the world’s seventh-largest automaker, has been on a quest for a tie-up to grow scale and consolidate costs for several years.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/30/another-merger-of-equals-fiat-chrysler-peugeot-tie-up-comes-with-risks-rewards.html

Not that I'm looking to buy a car, but I have a fondness for Peugeot, having once owned one. It was the most comfortable auto I've ever had. I've been annoyed that Peugeot stopped importing their cars to the U.S. many years ago.

Analysts see the merger as a quick way for Peugeot to re-enter the U.S. market after a decades-long hiatus, while continuing to grow its European operations following the company’s acquisition of GM’s European business in 2017.

Huge win for Chrysler getting Carlos Tavares as CEO.  What he's done with Peugeot and Opel is amazing.

One thing you can say about Fiat owning Chrysler at least they made some affordable high HP cars and forced the other automakers to follow suit.

Yes, it was successful for Chrysler because they're still in business and are now part of the third largest auto company in the world selling 8.7 million vehicles per year.

In the US, dodge and Chrysler have awful resale value. Not to mention the quality is terrible. Ram is probably the least reliable of the full size trucks too..... Fiat has tried numerous times to sell cars here and it hasn’t worked. Maseratis plummet in value as soon as you drive them off the lot.
None of this matters in the US market, all people want is suvs and trucks

More resources means you can design and build better vehicles.  The combined companies R&D budget will be over five billion dollars per year.   Between platform sharing, common parts, and greater purchasing volume, they'll be able to match the build and design quality of the competition.

PSA Group Seen As The Buyer In Merger Of Equals With Fiat Chrysler

It’s been a day since Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group announced their 50-50 merger, leaving enough time for markets to react and figure out who the real buyer is.

FCA’s shares jumped in value by 10 percent following the official announcement, while PSA’s shares dropped by about the same amount, which is the typical buyer’s hit according to a Bloomberg report.

The two car makers went out of their way to make this merger as equal as possible, and that included paying dividends, shedding assets and distributing board seats. FCA shareholders will receive a premium of almost 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion), based on share prices before reports of the negotiations and both sides shed assets before combining their remaining equity.

After adjusting the differences in market values and the 5.5 billion-euro dividend paid out to FCA’s shareholders, “achieving a 50/50 shareholding suggests PSA is paying a 32% premium to assume control of FCA,” Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois said. “PSA shareholders are assuming more market risk.”
