71 is not young.

It is below the average life span, which is around 77-79, so it is younger than normal.

Im pretty sure life expectancy is much lower than 78, compare how many people live over 78 to those that dont even reach adulthood in third world countries, I sense its a very skewed system of working it out to come to 78 years old.

If you're 70 it is.

yep, it was top of my priorites as well...

Yes, but I feared for Jusup's health prior to this death.

I fear for my health - and lately, the health of wes.

It really annoys me that no matter what we do to be healthy, there's nothing we can do to stave off death.  Oh well.

As Arnold says "It [death] pisses me off".  He said that in a recent Howard Stern interview.

A couple of fellows on the Iron Age and Iron History boards mentioned that he was a very bad drunk for a long time, and it took its toll on him. I believe he cleaned himself up in the last decade or so, I hope he had a few good years.
Yes he did have bad drinking problem after his wife Rachel died in 89 but pulled it together in the end.

One of the most iconic figures of the golden era of Bodybuilding. Almost never smiled in pictures. Great and impressive look.

Had a hard time after his wife died. He will never be forgotten.

RIP YUSUP!

Is dying in your 70’s considered early?

Yes,it's early. And it's only 71.

It appears that steroids do cut about 10-15 years off your life for the moderate user.
I'm saying moderate, compared to what today's guys take.

Yes, he was even more impressive in those gym photos than on stage.

Well, what do you expect? Jusup was an ex alcoholic steroid user.

Even clean-living "lifetime naturals" like Steve Reeves and Reg Park "only" made to the respective ages of 74 and 79.

John Grimek made it to 88 and George Hackenschmidt (The Russian Lion) made it to 90.

I'm not sure there was ever a rule of thumb that strongman or bodybuilders had to live long lives.

Eugen Sandow died at 58 , as did Charles Rigoulot .
Loui Uni (Apollon the Mighty) died at the age of 66.
Hermann Goerner died at 63.
Louis Cyr died at 49 .
Arthur Saxon died at only 43.

Though ,a little later Siegmund Klein lived to 84 as did the Mighty Atom.
You mentioned Hackenschmidt  living to a great age, though his greatest wrestling rival ,the American Frank Gotch ,died at the age of 30 ,apparently of syphilis.

Vince Gironda ,who publicly was very much opposed to steroids, lived to 79.
And Larry Scott lived to 75 ,though Bill Pearl is still kicking at 89.

Among Jusup's contemporaries  Sergio Oliva lived to 71 ,Serge Nubret 74 , Franco Columbu to 78 and Casey Viator to exactly 62 (not too old).

What's the point of all this? For some of us ,having followed the scene for a while , Jusup's death doesn't feel that premature.  Besides isn't the allotted Biblical life-span three score and ten?

Didn't Bobby Pandour die at like 38?  Agreed on lifespan.  After 70 the body starts to fall apart regardless and how many great achievements by artists, musicians and inventors are made at that age?

He had a really good, solid rugged and masculine look.

I think he deserve a sticky of his own. I believe his death is just as serious as Kenny losing part of his leg.
