Listening to some of these geniuses, criticizing a FIFTY-YEAR-OLD former Mr. Olympia, who STILL IS among the top 5 bodybuilders on the planet, is quite comical.

I believe you do have to train heavy but not on all exercises. And "heavy" to me is the most weight you can use, for the most reps, with the TARGET MUSCLE doing the work.

When I bench press, I do it the way Leroy Colbert and Serge Nubret did, with my hands as close to the collars as possible. Usually, I have to use a Smith machine, because the uprights on today's regular benches are wide. The old-school ones were narrow, like this:

No more free-weight squats (at least not with poundages beyond my bodyweight) are in my routine. And my back and knees are oh-so-grateful for it. Any overhead tricep extensions (barbell or dumbbell are out). It's either dips or tricep pushdowns.

Awhile back, I was popping glucosamine pills like Skittles, because my joints were killing me. Now, after revamping my training, I haven't touched them for several months (almost a year).

Dex has the right idea. He has paid his dues with the heavy iron. He need not apologize to anyone for how he trains now. You don't go from being a bantamweight to Mr. O, without being smart with your training and diet.

Aren’t you the one that believed mike Ashley was natural?

Yes.  He also doesn't believe in evolution.  He called it "From goo to you, by way of the zoo."

Gym rats... hell, even total novices are capable of that.

40 years of putting time in the gym has sure given Dexter some brutal strength!   ::)
Bodybuilding IS NOT about strength.

I'm sorry! This has WHAT to do exactly with Dexter Jackson again?

Funny how when you can't make a point about a particular subject, you deflect to something else totally unrelated.

I don’t doubt that at all.

He was benching 365 in a BFTO DVD... about 2 weeks before the Olympia in 2004

I have the BFTO tape from 2000 in which he reps with with 405. Marcus Haley was his training partner in that one.

I think Dexter will be fairly thin off gear.  He's only maybe 215-lb juiced to the max...I can't see him being more than 165-lb off gear.

215? He turned pro as a light-heavyweight at the top of the weight class (198 lbs). It's safe to say he's put on WAAAAAY more than 17 lbs in the 20 years since he's been a pro.

Even when he stops the anabolics, Jackson will be smaller; but he'll hardly be small.

PS - All Mega Mass 2000:

Too bad you've failed miserably at it, as Mike Ashley has JACK SQUAT to do with the issue here about Dexter Jackson, let alone your claim that Jackson is going to turn into an Ethiopian famine victim once he retires and foregoes the anabolics.

Now who is totally misrepresenting the views of a fellow classic Getbigger™?

I said nothing of the sort!

I implied that Dexter would turn into two Ethiopian famine victims upon retirement.

We should set up a bench press competition between Wes and Dexter.

His bone structure and height is of a small man, like majority of bbers, dexter is 5’6

Yes, if he was off EVERYTHING, he will def be way under 200 if he’s in single digit bf levels, that’s nothing to be ashamed about either, he’s built all his muscles, like all pro bbers through steroids, and genetic response

Ask yourself what 5’6 man is truly big if he’s actually natural, need to take into account he’s also 50

I doubt that. If he eats halfway decently and trains well, he'd be more in the low 200s.

A few years ago Dexter said that when he retires he will drop down to 180

Good estimation.  Agreed.  Even an honest 15% is pretty lean...I could see him maintaining a decent physique, but he would be quite thin...he just has a naturally thing structure [I'm not insulting him - better that then to have a natural tendency towards putting on weight, IMO].

Even 200-lb at 15% body fat would be a very muscular physique for 5'6.5" and 50+ years of age.  I'm not insulting Dexter, I'm just saying.

I trained heavy my early years of training, basic compound movements like everyone else

For the past decade I’ve been using moderate weights, less rest, and more sets and reps

Honestly, it really isn’t rocket science

Why would he need to be "lean" (as in single-digit body fat), when he retires?

200 lbs at 15% bodyfat is a big, by normal standards, anyway.

He's been one of the best bodybuilders for over 20 years (and THE BEST BODYBUILDER IN THE WORLD for one year).

Indeed. That's why I stated earlier that, while I pile on the poundage on certain exercises, I refrain from doing such on other exercise or I avoid them altogether.

- No heavy tricep extensions (barbell or dumbbell)
- No heavy squats
- No heavy flat bench presses (when I do them, it's "Leroy" or "Serge" style, as the last exercise for chest).
- No behind-the-neck shoulder presses (I didn't do them a lot, anyway; plus doing laterals first eliminates the need for BTN presses).

My joints and lower back are all the happier for it.  ;D

Imagine if bodybuilding standards keeps declining. That would allow Dexter to stay competitive well into his 70’s

By normal standards, he'll look great. We're not talking pro (top amateur) bodybuilder standards.

Again, this whole narrative that Dexter will turn into a twig when he retires is patently absurd. He'll be smaller but still look terrific, as long as he trains and eats halfway decently. This is a dude who didn't have to do cardio to get ripped until his mid-40s.

no one would have to do cardio if they ate less calories...
