Therefore, the median income of a neighborhood chooses your neighbors for you. Since there is an inequality of income and size of population between different races and ethnic groups with white folks at the top of both, there's a pretty good chance most of your neighbors are going to be white if you live where real estate is at the upper price point as compared to the rest of the surrounding area.

Racism = prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

But prejudice doesn't stop at race, even nationality can be involved.

Latinos for example are very xenophobic.

Xenophobia = dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

Basically, the same characteristics of racism regardless of race.


One clear example is the massive exodus of Venezuelans. Their country is falling apart and millions have fled away.
