Larry Scott got the most out of his limited genetics.  He was narrower than Heath but built his delts and arms to insane mass.  I used to read his training articles back in the 80's and 90's and he had very unique training methods he got from Gironda.

They say he made gold out of tin, but muscle length, muscle cells, neurological efficiency and many other factors are as important.
I don’t think he lacked these factors.
Narrow shoulders and wide hips don’t always equate shitty genetics.

He did have full muscle bellies but most successful bodybuilders had much better genetics.  Training at Vince's definitely helped.

You are right, but still I truly believe he had much better genetics than he was given credit for, I read his arms were expentionally strong.
The way he was doing shoulder db presses are very unique, he definitely trained smart.

Harold Poole appears to be an absolute mass monster for those days. Did he get shafted for having a tint to him?

as the story goes scoot and poole were tied for the first mister o. when weider was asked what to do he said give it to the white guy. the first mister o gave no prize money, because money was only to be given if contest turned a profit, which it didn't.

Thanks for the info, Funk. That’s a shame. Poole looks like the winner to me although I’m just going by grainy video and pics. I could see the marketing upside with Scott with the big arms and the traditional California look.

Black guys like Poole,Oliva (when he was AAU ) Rock Stonewall, and Rick Wayne all got discriminated against cuz they weren`t marketable even if the clearly won the contest................. .they did not win the contest.

I don't know, Poole looks exceptionally smooth in the photo.  Oliva won 3 in a row even though one was unchallenged.  There were numerous black champions at all levels so I don't know how anyone could claim racism.  Bodybuilders always have excuses for losing.

Insane bicep.

Poole had a severe stuttering problem and from a PR perspective would have been a poor representative.

I agree in a sense that the IFBB was much more tolaerant of race but you can go way back inj the history of the AAU and find discrimination.

Only in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting did Hoffman give a pass to a Black lifter named John Davis as he was outstanding and won in the Olympics if I`m not mistaken.

Oliva and Poole along with Wayne did fare much better when they jumped ship from Hoffman to Weider no doubt about it............not sure if Rick Wayne was ever AAU as he was from the Caribbean or England ???

i agree wes, even in the 80,s into the 90,s u had guys like Bob Paris on more magazine covers than lee haney who was Mr Olympia at the time. even today guys like Calum get more offers and make alot of money doing photo shoots compared to the current mr olympias ever did,i mean the average guy or woman walking by a magazine stand will take a second look when they see a great looking body like calum compared to some guy who looks like he swallowed a refridgerator with veins popping out all nasty looking.at the end of the day its all about whos physique sells more mags not whos winning all the shows, ofcoarse the mass monsters have their little fan base who enjoy freakish muscle size
