He also looked to me to be in the over 6'5" range when he was in the boxing roundtable video posted here.

Being almost a foot taller than Mike Tyson, I wonder how the hypothetical matchup of Tyson vs. Fury would go down [note that I put Mike Tyson on the "A" side].

Wow!!!

Respect to Fury for showing respect to an elder statesman of his sport.

I always wondered how that near foot height disparity would have factored in, in that hypothetical matchup.

Fury is amazing, but watching Mike Tyson box and exercise his head movement...it's like a work of art.

Focused Mike Tyson beats anyone. Best head to head, prime v prime heavyweight ever.
But lower top 10 in terms of achievement

Is the consensus that Tyson didn't face the top competition of his day, making him lower top 10 in boxing history?

The irony is that he was brought down by a woman.

Robin Givens destroyed that kid.

Great post.  I'm glad that you and dan18 brought up the numerous people who took advantage of Tyson.  I was watching the Ironage movie "Tyson" that featured George C. Scott [RIP] as Cus D'Amato [RIP], and there was one friend/handler of Tyson's in a scene defending him, and someone chimed in and said "Yeah, some friend you are for $250,000 a year."

Just makes me wonder how many people were around the young Tyson just to bleed the guy dry as he made money hand over fist, but couldn't enjoy the money because of his hard training + great work ethic.

Someone said "Too much too soon."

Imagine being 20 and having just beaten the man who beat Mohammad Ali, to become the youngest heavyweight world champion in boxing history.

It must have been quite the trip - and a young and driven Tyson was ripe for the picking, in terms of being taken advantage of.

Mike always had problems with the taller guys.

And of course nobody nearly as tall with even close to the amount of talent as Fury.

The Gypsy King keeps his distance and edges out the unanimous decision.

And yes his dad is an old man but still very much an ass kicker.

C'mon  man ,I like Fury , he may be the most talented heavyweight of  the last 5 years  but his   size is half of his talent , I can name 20-30  boxers from the past more talented than Fury

They are talking about Tyson Fury's dad, not Tyson. Fury's dad was also a boxer around the time Mike Tyson fought.

He fought Henry Akinwande, someone who would later fight Lennox Lewis and get DQ for excessive holding. :D

You can also make the argument that Fury has had problems with smaller guys (by his own admission too).

I think Tyson would be a bad match up for Fury stylistically.
