German state financial minister kills himself over coronavirus ‘despair’

https://nypost.com/2020/03/29/german-state-financial-minister-kills-himself-over-coronavirus-despair/

A German state finance minister took his own life after expressing “despair” over how to handle the economic fallout from coronavirus, an official said.

Thomas Schaefer, who was the finance minister of Germany’s Hesse region, was found dead by suicide Saturday on railway tracks at Hochheim, which is near Frankfurt.

State governor Volker Bouffier said Sunday that the 54-year-old had become consumed with how to handle the coronavirus crisis sending the global markets into freefall.

He said Schaefer was particularly concerned about “whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help.”

“I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” Bouffier said. “He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us.”

More people will die of suicide due to financial hardships/stresses than of the Corona Virus itself.

In the current scenario, Germany gets the short end of the stick. They make high-end industrial products for which they want a strong currency and they have a low debt to GDP ratio, but they’re in a union with dead beats Spain, Italy and, to a somewhat lesser extent, France that need to be continually bailed out and have tourism as their primary industries and need a weak currency to attract tourists.

I just can’t see a happy ending for the European Union.

Finally a good post!

Also Germany do very well out of exporting their manufactured goods to their EU neighbours. If the likes of Italy and Spain are broke from this then chances are the will want to exit the euro and go back to their own currencies. Either Germany props them up or they are gone.

Germany now has its cock in hand and France on cremepie clean up duty, but with no pussy to fuck. UK watching through the 2 way mirror has already grabbed its coat and has one foot out of the door.

Italy was doing well with their own currency, the Lira, when they could manage their own economy and interest rates etc. It all went downhill almost immediately after adopting the Euro, living standards dropped and prices almost doubled.

YES!

Pre corona Italy have were doing deals with China. Basically trying to establish a modern day silk road. The Germans were not at all happy about this.

Adopting the Euro is the very reason they will never get out of the EU.  UK is pretty much the only one who can because they always regulated and valued their economy on the pound.

At this point, the European Union idea really isn’t working for anybody. This is probably gonna be the last crisis that it makes it through. The next one will end it.

It was a fundamentally flawed concept from the start. You can’t have a monetary union without a political one. Americans think of themselves as Americans first and then they identify according to
their state. In Europe it’s the opposite, an Italian thinks of himself as an Italian and then as a European.
