I stand corrected but Berlins debt is quiet low though Germany gets very moral about debt even as it ignores having being the biggest defaulter and the greatest recipient of debt forgiveness in the 20th Century.

A German state finance minister took his own life after expressing “despair” over how to handle the economic fallout from coronavirus, an official said.

Thomas Schaefer, who was the finance minister of Germany’s Hesse region, was found dead by suicide Saturday on railway tracks at Hochheim, which is near Frankfurt.

State governor Volker Bouffier said Sunday that the 54-year-old had become consumed with how to handle the coronavirus crisis sending the global markets into freefall.

He said Schaefer was particularly concerned about “whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help.”

“I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” Bouffier said. “He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us.”

It's likely he was under investigation for something shady and used this as an out of sorts. I really don't know...Germans are pussies now.

True, but it's not even given a moment of consideration. This lip service that "if we can save just one life" by shutting down the economy it would have been worth it doesn't take into consideration the unseen and unrecorded consequences. Poverty is a health issue as well. When you can't feed your family and put a roof over your head people will suffer and lives will also be ruined and lost.

Keeping a close eye on Sweden which is not shutting down and letting the disease run it's course.

The major undoing was a central bank (ECB) owning the currency but separate govts all doing whatever they wanted.

From memory, deficits were not supposed.to.exceed.3% and then Italy and others ran 9%-11%. Fucked it instantly and Germany got dragged under the water with them.
