If you obsess over every grammatical and structural point, you can come across as stiff.

But if you’re lax and make a bunch of simple errors, you’ll come across as stupid.

Lebron James used to say myself all the time in place of I or me. It used to drive me nuts and it's one of the first things that started me down the path of hating him. lol.

These rules are on the rigid side. There is a difference between what be wrong in a business letter versus everyday speech:

“An historic event” would look bad written but few people would flinch hearing it spoken that way. On the other hand, overuse of “myself” is a problem whether written or spoken.

When someone says the nonexistent word "irregardless". It's just "regardless". And remember "alright" is all wrong. There's no word "alright" just "all right".

The thing that makes me nuts isn't grammar but rather uptalk or upspeak. It's where the inflection goes up at the end of a sentence so everything they say sounds like a question.
