Exactly. During the last Olympia, Gustavo wasn't even compared to Jay and Ronnie (supposedly). If that's true, why complain about this minor contest? Not comparing athletes is like not having teams play each other and just evaluating them on how they last looked in practice.

Gustavo wasnt compared to Ronnie and Jay becuase he isn't in their league. He only beat Gunter in the final round because he "won" the challenge round. Badell needs to lose the attitude and get a reality check - you'd thing the ASC would have set him straight . . .

As for the Masters - Rusty IS in Bob Chick's league and should have been compared to him instead of swept under the rug into 8th - he deserved top comparisons - Badell did not

That's the problem with making a judgment that someone is out of someone else's league without comparing them. A judge may have glanced at Rusty and decided he was not in Bob's league.

We need to do what politicians do, and put a spin on the whole gut thing. We need to rename the gut and try to make it sound like a good thing. Perhaps we could call it a sign of sturdiness?

What a coincidence - the same thing is often blamed for Lyle Alzado's death...

What's funny about the Alzado situation is that if you research the symptoms of the disease people got from cadaver HGH, it's obvious that Alzado did not die from the Creutzfeld-Jakob disease. He went public with his "brain cancer", and managed to suffer (while keeping a pretty high profile, giving interviews on tv, etc) publicly for a prolonged period of time before dying.

Agreed. Wasn't it a typically AIDS-related lymphoma or sarcoma that killed him? Of course the media and the general public seemingly couldn't (or wouldn't) make the connection at the time.

Looking at the same pics you & everyone else is looking at. From the consensus of a few people who attended the show, Russ needed a week more of conditioning. Some said that nothing was happening when he posed. The shape, size, & overall structure were there--but the conditioning was a little off. In these two pics, Chick is in better condition than Russ.

No one at the time ever claimed it was CJD. He just called it brain cancer, and people not in the know assumed he meant a brain tumor, which was his intent, to mislead.

He died of AIDS related lymphoma. It was common knowledge at the time that thats what it was.

btw, sleeping with a girl once or twice long long ago does not make you bisexual.

Maybe no one claimed it was CJD at the time, but you still see people on message boards claim that it was HGH that killed him. I'm not a doctor or anything, but CJD is the only actual documented cause of death I've ever heard of related to HGH. But maybe there are other documented causes of death linked to cadaver GH - I certainly don't claim to be a medical expert.

I do agree with your last comment. As I'm sure you're aware, Alzado's double life went far beyond "sleeping with a girl once or twice long ago" . Like many "down low" types, he was actually married and had a kid. Of course I have no first hand knowledge of his alleged homosexuality. But from what I've seen time and time again in life, rumors which are so rampant and persistent usually have at least some truth behind them.

I think that he wanted a last fling at the limelight so he became the poster boy for anti steroids crusade.

It was like everything else: front page news, page one splash, then weeks later, section E retraction, in a side panel under the obituaries.

Agreed. WE both have probably as much on other threads and on other boards. He dabbled, heavily or just slightly dipped, in a number of unsafe situations. He seemed to have lived a jet fuelled sort of life- and he burned out rather than fade away.

ACtually, he did sort of fade away at the end but I was referring to the length of life- his age.

It was T-Cell Lymphoma. Supposedly prevelant in AIDS patients.
