why would anyone NOT work out?
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:55:32 PM »
i dont understand why anyone -guys especially- would not work out in some form. it makes you look better, feel better, and it is enjoyable.

me and one of my brothers lift and have put some quality mass on our skinny frames, but my other brother is boneskinny as hell hes 18, 5-11 120, i always try to get him to lift with me, try to get him to do something, tell him it would be so easy to improve yourself, but he wont have any part of it. just sits there playing online anime fantasy games all day long drinking coffee.

maybe im just way too appearance conscious, but i dont get why anyone would not lift, its so easy to improve yourself and there are no drawbacks that i can think of.

Agreed, it takes little time, its enjoyable, you look better and get stronger, you're healthier(in one way),etc. etc.
Cardio, on the other hand, I can see why the average joe would not want to do..

Your brother (the one that doesnt lift) should enter the next IFBB show.  If he's nice to Jim Manion he'll get a trophy and a top 5 placing.

a lot of people just don't care. they're content with how they look or have other interests that they put above working out.

Some people feel exhausted after working out. I work out sometimes, but I actually feel better after a long run. A hard workout just leaves me feeling weak.

i dont know why they wouldnt. for me...i dont care at all about strength. its not why i workout...to me its all about getting as big as possible.    if i had to choose either being 250 with low body fat (LIKE 4%) and can bench 1000 or being 300 low body fat (like 4%) and ebing extremely weak..like benching 135...i owuld chooose 300 lbs.      i guesss im juist very self concious?

Its tough for some folks to go to the gym CONSISTENLTY. Ive been training for 10 years now.  I cant stop. lol.. Then there are folks that will go for 6 months and take off for 2-3 months...those are the folks that always look the same.

Getting started is tough for some folks....

Take your brother, maybe he'd feel like like crap walking into the gym with you....he is the weak, nerd brother and the thought of the work to match you is daunting...

Maybe, he is intimidated by the the thought of working out with you and seeing how much stronger you are and how little he can do...

For women, the often quoted "I don't want to get bulky" is why they don't work out....had a woman say that to me and she had an ass the size of a rhino....I guess that doesn't count?

Somedays, it sucks to work out...you're tired, feel weak, and nothing goes well....BUT when you are finished it feels great just to be done.  And yes, there is a vainity factor...I admit it.

It is my experience that many successful people work out but for fun, health, stress release , etc.
Bodybuilding in the  pure sense is still a cult type activity.

They just don't get it.

Just like how I don't get how guys just run a few miles a day, don't work out, and long all sorts of scrawny and all.  Do they think that looks good?  They look like 80 year old men.  Some things will never make sense to others.

Hmmm, in my best bodybuilding shape (contest wise) I was almst always lacking financial security and many apsects of my overall life were less than ideal. I have not competed in over a decade but am more happy and secure than ever...go figure.

A lot of those scrawny runner , exex types are very happy, wealthy men with wonderful full lives!
Can you say the same about most serious bodybuilders??

Most people don't lift. Most people don't do cardio. Most people don't exercise period. Its hard work and takes discipline if you expect any real results.

Dude that's so similar to my 17yr old brother, I think he just doesn't like to sweat plus he's got a good looking giirlfriend so he's pretty content. My other brother and I lift quite often and try to drag his ass there, He say's he doesn't want to stunt his growth but I keep telling him he ain't getting any taller... the dream is OVER!

some people become so out of shape they eventully become hopeless...and they adopt the mantra, "oh, who cares. i might as well, im going to die anyway" and they recite it over and over again as they shovel sh*t into their fat hole day after day

If you want to score with babes without needing any game to speak of - lift.  Simple.

Even better, just be a twirp or fat slob with lots of money. That brings in the hostest babes bar none.

They don't look 80 :o It feels good to have enough endurance to reel off a 10 mile run when you feel like it.

I just started working construction, (drywalling, etc...),after a 12+ hours shift of that bullshit I can barely walk let alone think about going to the gym. It sucks to have to almost stop training after the years I've put into it but other prioities come up in life sometime. Now I just train on the weekends but the workouts arent the same as going throughout the whole week because the gym is packed and other reasons.
