There's Affirmative Action, Employment Equity, Black Economic Empowerment and racial quotas for national sports for blacks.

Also, there are different grade thresholds to get into schools, university and for advanced degrees based on race. Whites need the highest grade, second Indians and Asians, third Coloureds/Khoi-San/Bushmen/ and Mixed race, and a lot lower are for Black Africans.

Being from America, you'd most likely be classified as 'Coloured' and not Black African.

With BEE for instance, the government wants employment by race in a business with over 50 employees and government departments to correspond to racial percentages. So if the Coloured population is 9 percent, if there are 100 vacancies only 9 positions may be awarded to them, irrespective of merit, experience or who is best suited to the job.

Also foreign business who want to invest locally are forced to give a percentage of their shares to blacks for free which has seen foreign investment obviously decrease.

The last 25 years has seen de-industrialisation of 40 %.

If their racial percentage is 9 % of the population, then the maximum amount that may be employed of that race in a government department/army/police or larger business is 9 %.

Also, only businesses with black partners who own 51 % of the business may be awarded government contracts.

In 2020 the minimum requirements for a City of Chicago publicly bid contract are 25% MBE and 5% WBE, regardless of the size of the contract.

I’d estimate 80% - 90% of the MBEs, DBEs, and WBEs are sham fronts for white-owned businesses or complete pass-through firms.
