Country group that hasn't been popular since Bush was in office Doubling down on the wokeness.

"The Dixie Chicks are now known as The Chicks.

The country trio changed its social media handles, and their official website now redirects to thechicks.com.

"We want to meet this moment," reads a message posted on the site, signed by members Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines and Emily Strayer. They've also released a new song, "March March," with a video filled with footage of protests through the ages, and listing the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and dozens more.

The move follows fellow country trio Lady Antebellum's decision to change their name to Lady A, renouncing the term used particularly to describe existing before the American Civil War, and "associations that weigh down this word," including ties to slavery."

Their hearts are in the right place on this, although the word Dixie (in my view) does not offend in the way that the Confederate Battle Flag does. For example, the state of Mississippi NEEDS to remove that flag from its official present day flag. That was a flag of rebellion against the United States of America. I think this will happen sooner or later.
