Old-Timers (Collagen)
« on: November 09, 2020, 08:52:03 AM »
As we know, a lot of Supps are useless junk. (A few decent ones, Amino's, Creatine, Some PWO's, FrogTech, etc).

Any of you old-timers here ever use Collagen Peptides for Tendon/Joint injuries?

(Geezers only please, Prime, Wes, Oldtimer1, Stunt, Funk, Coach, etc)  :D

10. Conclusions

UC-II administration has been reported to be more effective than the most frequently used glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate supplements in joint health studies that were done with humans and animals. UC-II can alleviate inflammatory T-cell response and activate T-regulatory cells via its oral tolerance mechanism, which eventually may reduce the cartilage damage. While NSAIDs have been shown to induce several side effects, including GI bleeding, along with the renal and hepatic dysfunction causing problems, in the long run, it is obvious that a safe and effective therapy is needed. In order to shed light to the true mechanism of action that UC-II takes place in the articular cartilage, along with an intention to bring better insights to the joint repair mechanisms, the techniques such as immunohistochemically staining and the unchecked gene expression of peptides related to cartilage metabolism should be performed in the experimental small animal models of OA. In the current literature, UC-II has been suggested as a safe and effective supplement for joint health both for humans and animals. It has been and can further be used standalone or as an adjuvant therapy with drugs in the OA management of those suffering companion animals.

Show me the legitimate studies proving it works.

I don't think there are any that prove it's better than placebo.

Give it a try.
It seems most supplements do not work due to their ingredients being denatured by heat or chemicals.

I'm 69 years old a lot of my joints are wrecked. I've taken some of that stuff with minimal to no results. there is no magic bullet. one benefit might be that I still don't have any gray hair, but that might be genetic. recently I've gotten stem cell injections in my knee which I wrecked playing football eons ago. so far nothing special has happened 5 weeks in.

Studies are out there, gotta wonder how significant any improvement might be. (Noticed or not). (Mainly for UC-II).

So far I only notice Boswellia helping (a bit) with some minor pain/inflammation. Im going to do something I havent done in 31 years (take 2 weeks off from lifting).
Need to heal up a bit. Stretch, rehab, back/shoulder repair, etc.

Couldnt make it past 2nd SQ set this AM (low back and right knee).  Aging  ???

Or that it was all marketing in the first place.

I used to buy huge bottles of pre-digested protein........aka Collagen......no results whatsoever.........poor incomplete protein source.

My buddy drank a whole bottle of the stuff one day and shit his brains out for a few days......classic case of the more is better syndrome.

Doesn’t HGH help with joint and tendon issues?  Or even Deca.

You only need to take about 20g Hydrolysed Collagen per day, but yes it's incomplete protein, so dont add it to your daily allowance.

It seems to works well for me. The key however is that you need to take it daily for at least a 10 to 12 weeks before you start seeing any benefits.

Guys the same age as me that I've been training on and off with for years are breaking down and needing 20 minutes plus of warms before a workout. I can still get into it without any warm up.

I wouldn't put this down to genetics either cos I have a family history of arthritis.

I use it, costs nothing, hard to say what it does but there is some research showing it might help joints and tendons and skin etc. Even muscle growth despite being low in the essential aminos.

I had rotator cuff/bicep tendon reattachment surgery two weeks ago. Started taking collagen peptides day after surgery. Don't know how well it will help my recovery,  but sure seems to be making my hair and nails grow.

I wish collagen etc worked, but it doesn't.

How about a low dosage TRT and GH combo? Any feedback from oldtimers on joint repair?

I know people who swear by it as well for a host of things.  I used some for joint pain like 20 years ago but don't think it did any better than Icy Hot.

Dmso is not to help joints its a transdermal carrier agent. Allows stuff you add to it to be carried to your bloodstream. Ex back in my day we would crush finnaplex into a powder and mix with dmso and spread pn inner leg or forearm etc. I forget the absorption rate. It worked. This was before tren conversion kits were readily avail.

A doctor told me that restricted blood flow to the joints due to aging has a big role in their recovery and health.
