I don't know what to make of this. There is one gay male activist/protester, although I thought maybe there was a second guy. It was more of a heckling than a protest. I'll  post the video, then ask some questions:

[1] Is there any chance this video was staged or set up? That's a lot of confidence to address someone speaking to you negatively. I'd do it, but I'm a bit crazy. Maybe Arsenio had a good security panel.

[2] Exactly what is Arsenio standing for here? He seems to be standing as much for gay rights, as he is freedom of association. Sort of like "It's nobody's business who I bring on this show. It's my show, and I don't need to have a certain agenda. Or maybe I will, but that's MY choice and nobody else's."

[3] Given that the protestor is some pushy queer activist, how would this demonstration be perceived today? Would it be safe to say this incident would be viewed as him screaming at an activist at the time perceived how a transgender activist would be perceived today? Or would people not notice the "Queer Liberation, Not Assimilation" t-shirt that the activist had on?

I suppose that's why I struggle to evaluate this one...today, you can't mess with a batshit insane far-left activist. You have White leftists telling Black Trump supporters that they aren't Black, and White women like Candace Cameron Bure having to make a video essentially justifying why she was following Candace Owens, and why she has the right to follow.

Incidentally, short of a Black woman committing murder, there was NEVER a time in my early years when FOLLOWING a Black woman would be something to apologize for! Just the audacity of these SJW shits.

White-hating, sanity-hating, Black-hating SJW's are so annoying. For Arsenio to defend freedom of association, and to ultimately stand up to a gay activist...that would not happen today.

Is Arsenio an Ironage Edge Lord, or am I missing something? If so, please give me your take.

1, There's a chance but it doesn't appear staged.
2, I think he is saying that his jokes are across the board.. they pick on eveyone equally and he has gay guests just like any other guests, he doesn't discriminate.
3. I think it would be the same today

I was around 15 when his show was on and I hated it even then.

All the spastic barking and jumping out of their seats in the audience was worse then a movie theater experience by a factor of 10.

Fucking guys gums and horse teeth would make a product of incest jealous.

He wasnt funny. His jokes sucked and his delivery was shit. Never hid is disdain for white folks either.

The cancellation of his show was one of the best things to happen to TV.

He's been irrelevant ever since.

Thank you for the replies. Screaming at an LGBT activist is a career-ending crime today, so this video has me very curious.

I found Arsenio funny in "Coming to America".

Only as an adult, have I looked back at celebrities/icons from my childhood and wondered if they were purposely propped up for some reason.

In Arsenio's case, because he was Black. He needed some talent, but he was also the affirmative action order of the day.

I would think someone like Prince had the talent by himself to make it big. Speaking of Prince, Arsenio interviewed him in a reboot of his show in 2014.

It was cancelled after the first season.

LMAO...check out how this was ACCURATELY COVERED in 1990:

Now check out how it got covered in 2016 - they changed it from "gay protester" [accurate] to gay RIGHTS protester:

https://www.thatericalper.com/2016/07/02/that-time-arsenio-hall-didnt-back-down-from-gay-rights-protestors-live-on-his-talk-show/?doing_wp_cron=1611309762.1350510120391845703125

Tim Fogarty - this is why MOST people who go have a problem with gay rights have a problem with your group. You bitch about "rights" straight people have that gay people don't have when there are NONE.

And don't say "marriage" - Canada legalized gay marriage in 2005. Canada only ended legal discrimination against STRAIGHT MEN in marriage/family court in 2007. So DO NOT pretend that was ever some gay issue, because it wasn't.

LMAO...I was reminded of this. I found it when I searched for "Sheeeeit" Glory Hole.

Not sure on the spelling of Sheeeeit there, though.

That's how I felt. I was sad to see the 2014 reboot fail.

Hollywood is unforgiving! Imagine being a renowned celebrity like Jack Nicholson, only to be cast as characters on the verge of dying like in "About Schmidt" and "The Bucket List", only to retire, get old, and die like everyone else.

If anything, I see a big downside to fame. I hadn't even heard of Arsenio Hall recently outside of that reboot, and I haven't heard of him since. As he said, he was good back in the day.

I remember watching it live and I can't blame him for being angry.   The reason being is that Queer Nation never disrupted every other late night show with a white host but the only late night show with a black host...one who has had plenty of gay guests on his shows.

Truth is that the most racist people out there are actually upper middle class white gay men who are self absorbed, catty little shits.   They basically try to put themselves in the same category as us Nubians when it suits them but when the real shit happens, they act like they aren't those niggas.   Not only that, most of them won't invite any black people to meetings, parties, etc.

No it was real, Matt...and its one of the reasons why nobody knows about Queer Nation anymore.   They are around...but not really because for the most part, they went after black people

Same. He had great chemistry with Van Damme and as a big JCVD fan as a kid, I always enjoyed when he was on.

The thing is, Vince - I can't read minds, so I don't know.

You may well be right, but without reading the guy's mind, I can't know his motivation for calling out Arsenio Hall. May it have been because he was Black? Yeah, maybe. But maybe Arsenio was thought to have a more "hip" [progressive, by 1990's standards] crowd.

You're spot on about the little shit angle - like, why couldn't that guy have just POLITELY asked that question? Why be so rude like that?

And had he asked nicely, Arsenio may well have answered nicely!

I wish ANYONE today had the balls to do what Arsenio just did. This is also where White men are pussies - it took a Black guy to put that guy in his place.

Maybe there's some backstory I'm missing here, but it was nice seeing Arsenio shut that guy down. Again, had the guy asked politely, it wouldn't annoy me so much. But he basically went up and to Arsenio and accused him of being anti-homosexual. Not cool [again - unless I'm missing something here].

I am right you jackrabbit, I SAID I FUCKING WATCHED IT LIVE WHEN IT HAPPENED and saw all of the news stations and interviews afterwards.   A lot of people came to bat for him.  Queer Nation is partially responsible for his show being cancelled along with have Louis Farrakhan on the show despite the fact that Jerry Springer and other talk show hosts had a number of racist fucks like yourself on.   That's why there is no "Queer Nation"...they targeted black hosts and actors.   I remember them going after Turbo B from the group SNAP for beating the shit out of a gay club owner over not getting paid.

As far as the revival show being cancelled in 2014...Hollywood isn't cruel, it was bound to happen.   The show was off for 20 years and things have changed so much that the laid back style and swagger wasn't suited to the "woke" crowd who wanted to be serious about everything.   Its also the reason the revival of "In Living Color" never happened.
