There is one definition of lying: making a false statement that you know is false at the time the statement is made.

When someone says you have a different definition of something the intention behind the statement is that they are not using the word correctly. I mean there is far more to it than that technically, if we are talking hermeneutically or in a deconstructionist manner. Definitions in that sense don't technically have singular meanings per se as each person brings there own web of meaning to the word. It's what texts can be interpreted differently despite each word having set definitions in a colloquial sense.
With respect to the second charge, I lie to patients all the time. Specifically if I deem it necessary for a greater good or if they can not handle said truth until work has been done. Being completely honest can backfire and actually make people worse. I ascribe to the idea of upaya, skillful means and this requires manipulation with an eye to proper intentions. I am also a dolorist and feel bad now is sometimes worth it for good later.
