With respect to the second charge, I lie to patients all the time. Specifically if I deem it necessary for a greater good or if they can not handle said truth until work has been done. Being completely honest can backfire and actually make people worse. I ascribe to the idea of upaya, skillful means and this requires manipulation with an eye to proper intentions. I am also a dolorist and feel bad now is sometimes worth it for good later.

If someone comes back with a hba1c of 7 but its down from 8.5 I would say great work thats really good! thats a lie, they need to get it down more for my liking but it's motivational and the greater good is them feeling positive about their improvements. I am not going to be brutally honest and say its ok but it's not where you should be.
