But should Coleman be compared to Arnold or Dorian?

The big gut era started in the late 90s. In the early 90s Ronnie still had a an old school small waist physique:

I'd say mid nineties is where it peaked for me.  The physiques were starting to get out of control, but still had some remnants of the golden era.

  • Dumb people think Trump is smart.
Where are photos of the other Ron Coleman.  The one that was advertised on all the natural posters and such and then got busted for roids.

In the 80syou would occasionally see guys walking down the street that looked like they competed in bodybuilding shows. Today you never see that. Lots of guys lift weights but not real bodybuilder type physiques.

It’s clearly dropped off the map from a popularity standpoint.

People's idea of what peaked looks like varies from person to person. Those who started working out in the 70's and 80's will have a different concept than those of us who began in the 60's. Likewise, folks who got into it at the start of the 21st century have a different idea of what a successful bodybuilder should look like. Why is this? It is partly because bodybuilding ideals change all the time.

Many of us old timers prefer the leaner look that bodybuilding stars had back when we started working out. They were our ideals. For the last 20 years or so, bigger has been better in bodybuilding. IMO that is changing now with the advent of the fitness and classic bodybuilding categories that seem to have brought bodybuilding full cycle back to the days when bodybuilders carried much less mass.

Bodybuilding is like clothing fashion, style preferences come and go all the time. What's old is new again and so on throughout the centuries.

And this is an example of why many are against steroid use. Drug free Ronnie held a job and had single digit kids and knew their names.

People don’t like to talk about how steroid pills ruin lives and create a generation of fatherless children.

But it was all fake and he disappeared when he went off cycle.

Although the wheelchair might have something to do with his bodybuilding routine, all those unknown kids don't. In fact, if he was able to produce an army of kids while using steriods....more power to him.

I assume you mean better then, than he does now. Don't we all? Arnold  is a good example of how much bodybuilding has changed. Compare his physique to some of the stars of today and he resembled a human only much more fit than most. But, he did not look like a freak of nature.

If you take the long view then bodybuilding did indeed peak in the 70s and 80s.  Arnold and Lee are good examples.... they built awesome physiques, won multiple championships, and parlayed their peaks into lasting lives of prosperity.  That is the model for young bodybuilders to follow.  Does anyone want to trade places with Ronnie Coleman?

the guys from the 70's and 80's had a more appealing look to them.
