Seen the news about all the freighters floating off our coasts?
We pay more to dock in China to load those ships, We don't have enough workers to unload the ships when they get here, We don't have enough truckers to deliver whats in those ships to the warehouses, We don't have enough workers to unload the items and put them on shelves, We don't have enough workers to pull the items off the shelves and load up the trucks that deliver the products, We don't have enough workers to unload the trucks when they get to the final destination, We don't have enough workers to sell the product....

...We need more stimulus checks so people can stay home!

The world operated with air freight and sea freight.

When the pandemic grounded most freighters and many passenger airlines, everybody moved to sea freight.

Our sea freight is not equipped to handle all global volume. It simply cannot do it.

This is why these shortages will not go away. Even when you can get product produced, you can't get it on board vessels. Then when you can, it takes twice as long because of the delays.

This is why it's a deflationary model. We are seeing productivity and volume decrease which is putting upwards pressure on prices and downward pressure on wages. This is where the pain begins but we have years of this ahead.

awesome- where there is scarcity there is opportunity! So much shit that could be made in the USA has been made in China for nothing other than cost. Plastic spoons? Toothpicks? Flip flops? I mean seriously- this supply chain disruption is fantastic.

I tried to buy a new car in Europe a few weeks ago, they were quoting 26 weeks before they can even accept the order and then a two month build time.....

Taiwan makes the computer chips and China wants control of Taiwan. They won't let them ship them out.  New cars can't be made without them.

Ross Perot, always correct. Giant sucking sound of selling out manufacturing brought us here. Like we can't make chips here...hell, we designed them.

Even more critical than that, Taiwan owns the machines that make next generation chips, called deep UV or extreme UV lithography systems. These are embargoed for sale to China. That's the real reason China wants to invade Taiwan. These systems are so difficult to build that it has been estimated it would take China 10 years and a trillion dollars to match the tech. By then the next generation would be in place.

Exactly. The US came up with everything that China makes of any technical value. Everything.

A communist system restricts free thought- that same free thought that leads to constant innovation. So they have to steal everything and try to copy it. The typical Chinese PhD is very bright but very timid. I gave a seminar in Beijing in 2012 and was stunned by the fear they had for challenging anything I said. i could have said the earth was flat and they would have nodded yes.

Taking heaps and fixing them up...

In the beginning of the film the prospective buyer who has been waiting for his car for several months asked his dealer, “What am I, a “forgotten man”?

This is a term for “hobos” or as we call them now, the “homeless”, aka bums.

Just thought I’d share that bit of trivia!

Cuba came up w 5 covid vaccines, 2 of which have similar efficacy to our mRNA offerings.  All that despite a ongoing trade embargo

I stopped buying new cars about 10 years ago- after I realized my Toyota fricking lasts forever with minimal cost. When I do replace it (at about 250K miles) I'll get another used Toyota.

My cars always get eventually wrecked in accidents and the insurance company totals them.
