A Uruguayan woman named Melania Geymonat and her American partner had been on a date night and decided to take a bus home.
They were only three stops from their destination when a group of young people boarded the bus.
According to Melania's Facebook account, these people began making obscene and homophobic comments when they saw them holding hands.
They started acting like ‘hooligans,’ asking us to kiss for a good time, calling us lesbians, and describing sexual positions.” Things took a darker turn when the individuals abruptly held their heads in an attempt to get them to kiss, leading to an altercation.
The women were attacked and beaten several times before the young men left the vehicle.
