A rare example where an engineer thought about the mechanic. (1950s) A maintenance scene involving a 1949 DAF-Domburg bus, notable for its innovative "drawer-style" engine bay designed in the Netherlands.

- The Dutch manufacturer DAF designed this bus with a retractable, front-mounted engine that mechanics could slide out, similar to a drawer, for easy access.
- This design intended to streamline maintenance processes, allowing the diesel engine to be serviced, repaired, or completely removed from the subframe with minimal difficulty.
- To accommodate this sliding mechanism, the bus utilized a lengthy 5-foot slip yoke to control the drive shaft.
