The bar suddenly rolled from his hands (suicide grip), happens in a split second, so there was no holding.
Notice that the safety holders are way to low.

I've spotted during 2 events, glad I never saw this.

i agree it happens a lot, but i never saw or heard of it happening once before idiot bench shirts added 200-300 lbs to peoples benches.

These new bench shirts add a lot more than 300lbs to some of these big guys. Take away the shirt and the crazy U arch some of these massive bench pressers couldn't do 500lbs. The bench press isn't a relevant lift anymore. You guys guys benching with a cheat shirt 800lbs who couldn't in their life time lift 315lbs over head from the floor.

isnt a spotter there to help you lift the weight off in case you cant lift it

i dont think its the spotters fault if you let the bar go, no way 2 dudes are catching that much weight at a free fall

There are plenty of instances where the bar has come out of someone's hands raw. What about the guy at USC I'm pretty sure he did not have a bench shirt on when he lost it.

I do agree bench shirts are getting pretty out of hand, but I still train my guys who want to use them how to. But they are all equally strong raw as well as shirted.

The spotters did their job. The idiot benching is the problem. No spotters in the world could have done better.

Even if I told you I was going to drop 580 pounds and you knew exactly when I was going to drop it- you couldn't catch it and stop it.

Yup, grip should be outlawed. There was this guy using the deathgrip at my gym and when he got to the top on each rep he would actually open up his entire hand. He was just a twink and wasn't using any serious weight 150 lbs but if it came down on his throat it could kill him. I tried to explain to him how foolish it was and he kept repeating how it's a natural movement for him. The kicker was that this guy was a trainer employed by the gym...
