The same type of thing happened a few block from me 2 years ago. Abandon home, thieves stealing copper pipes, but forgot to turn off the gas main... BOOM! The house was obliterated.

Explosion is just like a 120mm mortar shell, must have been a LOT of chemicals in there!!!
