Why is that ironic? Of COURSE he does.
His bodyguards aren't there to run. They are there to protect him from anyone who might attempt to physically get up in his face. Like human walls. Brute size (and strength, although a few of these guys look less than athletically powerful) are what's required. Their client is the dude who needs to have lungs. Not them. If they can't manhandle some pest, and fast, they've failed miserably at their job.
