Lose that and they can't stage attacks on Russia in the future through there, can't get contraband through ports there, couldn't even do an Opium war on Russia. From where I am, at first, I thought this was just hyperbole. But it's challenging to get a clear picture of the situation from the US. The west recaptured Kherson. And when I look on a map it is east of Odesa. However, when I search specifically for information about Odesa, I find warnings from figures like Elon Musk and others suggesting Russia could realistically threaten to capture it. With the bias in our media being so pro-Ukrainian they won't widely report on such a threat until it’s already happened. Maybe they are begging the Russians not to do it.
