Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the destruction of all Covid-19 vaccine stockpiles in the country.

Local sources said Putin’s order came 48 hours after the scientist who made Russian Covid vaccine was found strangled to death.

Andrey Botikov (48), who helped create the Sputnik V vaccine, was killed with a belt after an argument with an intruder at his house.

His body was discovered at his residence in Moscow on Thursday and had stab wounds and abrasions all over his body as well as strangle signs on his neck.

A murder investigation has now been launched by the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) which said that a 29-year-old man has been taken into custody.

Botikov has been a virologist at the Gamaleya National Research Institute, since 2014, where he contributed to the development of Russia’s Sputnik V Covid vaccine.
