Gas price in The Netherlands is above 9 US dollars per US gallon:

Americans always complain about gas prices yet continue to buy gas guzzlers.
Buy a diesel or a 4 cylinder (turbocharged) engine. Or a hybrid or whatever and stop nagging about energy prices!
We don't have many options for high fuel economy.
Most hybrids here are shit with a lot of problems.
So finding something that gets better than 30 mpg is difficult.
I wouldn't have a problem buying a hybrid if they were dependable.
My Corvette gets 32 mpg on the highway at 70-80 mph. Mainly because it's light, aerodynamic and has good gearing.
The daily driver i use gets 25 mpg, which is pretty good for mixed City/Highway driving.
My GF has a new Hyundai that is said to get 30 City and 40 Highway. Even driving it like a grandma i've never seen it get better than 25 City and 30 Highway.
I think in time there will be better options, but to spend $30-40k on a new hybrid just to save $500-600 a year is pretty silly IMO.
