It's just the times. Look at the big supplement companies from 20-30 years ago:
Weider
Twinlab
Prolab
MuscleTech
SportPharma
Met-Rx
Dymatize
MuscleLink
EAS
Cybergenics
Nature's Best
They're either gone, bought out by a larger pharmaceutical company, or do their sales mainly overseas.
MuscleTech's supplement were great, for the most part. I first tried them 25 years ago, when there were just three: Acetabolan, Creatine 6000-ES, and Hydroxycut. Back then, their lone guinea pig was the late Greg Kovacs.
The problem has always been the price. Folks may forget (or may not have known) how expensive creatine was back in the mid/late 90s. You certainly couldn't get a pound (roughly 450 grams) for less than $10 at Wal-Mart then. Creatine 6000-ES used to cost $60 for 300-gram bottle, until MuscleTech replaced it with Cell-Tech. Then the cost dropped drastically; the last bottle I bought cost me $12.
Thanks to laws about not being able to sell "expired" supplements, MuscleTech's wares (and those of other companies) became cost-efficient. I've sang MT's praises for years, because their goods worked well and (come clearance time) they were dirt cheap. This was especially true when I was in the military, as the GNC stores on base has "Gold Card" day every day on all items....INCLUDING CLEARANCE STUFF

Ah, the good old days: 7-lb jugs of Cell-Tech for $15; 4 lb jugs of Nitro-Tech for $20; 2 lb jugs of the so-called gourmet versions of Nitro-Tech for $5. With one jugs of Cell-Tech, even at clearance price, I got all three of their bodybuilding videos made in the mid 2000s for free.
But, some of the clearance stuff was necessary because their powders were VILE, namely Gakic and Anator P-70. I bought three months of Gakic powder for less than one month's worth of Gakic pills.
Their products were actually too powerful, their creatine 4233.8% better than test and deca.
Therefore they've had to stop making it
You're partially correct. The core ingredients to some of those supplements are so cheap today (today's inflation, notwithstanding) that it's not profitable to sell them anymore. You're not going to push $70 for a month's supply of Cell-Tech, when you can buy the key ingredients (Creatine, ALA, dextrose/other simple sugar) for a third of that and have it last for 2-3 months.
Same goes for Acetabolan. Acetyl-L-Carnitine is cheap as the dickens; I got a bottle of it for $17 that will last me at least SIX MONTHS. In days of yore, a large bottle of Acetabolan was $60 and lasted 2 weeks....maybe 3 if you trained less than 4 times a week and stretched it.
