Saw it.  Great movie, projected record opening.  Avoids all the Woke BS and depravity, had broad mass appeal.  Not flag waving or political or overly serious.  Watch the first one again to get everything.  Think GetBiggers will enjoy.

I re-watched the original and then the next night saw the new one.  I think it's got better action than original, more suspense.  It's about the same as the first one overall on how good a movie it is, maybe a little better.  Viewership and audiences have changed, today we won't put up as much with long dragged out scenes apparently going nowhere.  The very minor character female pilot is really the only Woke aspect.  It gets 99% audience and 97% critics on Rotten Tomatoes, so that's very broad appeal.

36 years ago when the original came out, I think it made everyone want to become a fighter pilot.

Iceman was the guy I think most people wanted to emulate. The guy gave off confidence and had the look people assumed of a pilot. Maverick was emotional, short and arrogant. He was a showoff likely due to a Napoleonic complex and used his father's passing and prior career as a great pilot as crutch to why he needed to constantly chase the greatness of a ghost.
