Getbig Contests in 2022?
« on: June 05, 2022, 08:49:34 PM »
In 2006, we had a Mr. Getbig physique contest.
In 2007, we had a 225-lb deadlift for reps contest.

Dave Palumbo did many "Bros vs. Pros" contests, with a 405 deadlift for reps, and 315 bench press for reps.

Off the top of my head, Andy Haman got 315x20 at the bench contest, and Derek Poundstone got 405x26 for deadlift, and was beaten by someone who got 405x27. I may be mistaken about Poundstone's reps...but I'm almost certain he was beaten by someone who got 405x27. I seem to recall another person who got around 27, but was disqualified on the last few reps due to a questionable lockout.

Toney Freeman got 275x27 for deadlift, which may have been a deadlift your body weight contest.

Michael Liberatore benched 225 for something like 30+ reps, but he had his earphones in, and didn't hear anyone when they told him the reps weren't counted, because they were 3/4 reps.

In 2012, Brad Rowe benched 225x43 during an Animal Cage contest in 2012, but slightly injured his chest doing that. Mike Van Wyck got 200-lb dumbbells for reps also in the Animal Cage in 2012, but also sustained a pec strain doing that.

Ronnie Coleman was said to get 225x77 at the 1997 Arnold Classic expo. That's basically unheard of. In 2005, Nasser El Sonbaty got 14 reps with perfect form, and Phil Heath got something like 40 reps - though Nasser claimed that being the first to go, and using perfect form is why he got so few reps.

Palumbo said Eric Spoto benched 315x43, but I'm not sure if that was during a Bros vs. Pros contest, or elsewhere. Spoto previously held world record in the raw bench press record with a bench of 722-lb, in 2013.

Personally, I wouldn't want to push myself with 315, as my lifetime best was 315x8. But a 225 bench for reps contest would be pretty cool. I'd get 15-30, depending on things - and would just listen to my body, and not push myself to my absolute max, to prevent injury.

Now that my training is going well, I'd be in for a Getbig contest, if we had one.

I like the "put up or shut up" nature of contests. You'd think from reading the boards, everyone benches 405 for 8-12 clean, but I know that's not the case.

Is there any interest in this? Because I haven't been able to compete in anything for the past two years because of the pandemic restrictions, and I think it would be a cool project for Getbig.

Yay or nay?

Matt vs. BHanks at least.

Since Brian criticizes your reps/workouts.
Hard to criticize anyone when you get destroyed... (Im sure he'll have a ton of excuses though).

You can do BHanks bodyweight for reps. (Even though you are lighter).

That's a great idea! I'd be quite confident in that one!

I'd even be willing to do B. Hank's body weight for reps, and he could do my body weight for reps. That would be a little harder...though I've benched 250x17 before, so...I think I could squeeze out a win even under those terms.

If we could even get five board members interested in a contest, I think we could get some interesting results...

I'm just looking to get a specific goal to work towards, now that my training is going so well - just to keep the momentum going, you know?

Most days I think Brian is around 225 lbs, so a nice round weight to pick. Four 45's and a bar, all thats needed.

Matt, have you gone copmletely mad ???

Do you realize the sheer amount of hourly pics on the hour every hour of Hanky that we would be subjected to.....at least 5 times more than we deal with now.  LOL  :D

Maybe this will consolidate everything into one thread?  :D

For myself, I will definitely just make a cycle progress thread, and keep everything in there, with weekly updates. Something like that.

Maybe I'll just try to get a 315x20 deadlift, just to do it. But it would just be cool to compete again - assuming the local contests are all cancelled yet AGAIN this year.

How about a beer curls for reps contest?

Wes, you are forbidden from competing.  ;)

I pressed 225 for 30 reps 20 years ago. I used to start my chest workouts with 225 for 25. I have had 3-4 pec tears on the right side one shoulder surgery and one reattached tricep now all on the right side. I have 2 shoulder surgeries on the left side and a surgically detached bicep tendon. I ain't doing no bench press contest. You guys have fun.

You so big you pluralize yourself now? You want to see videos of men working out? Weights are just tools not goals and results.

That's really good, B. Hank - the Northwestern Ontario record is 225x30 set in 2012, and held by the man who was Ontario's Strongest Man that year:

Yeah I know I used to be excited that I compared well to NFL combine guys however again you will excell in the rep range you train doing a gazillion reps doesn't always translate to a single rep max and vice versa

I am extremely careful when flat benching now as I have had 2 pec tears on the bench both when doing 225lbs for reps. First time was due to lack of recovery from previous workout. 2nd time was from trying to get back in shape too quickly. 3rd and 4th time were outside the gym. Right now I will not go above 225lbs. I just do 225lbs for 5 sets of 10 and that is it. I then go heavier on hammer strength incline and decline. Yeah I know baby weights but I am trying not  to tear my pec again. The strength is there to go heavier but I won't there is no need

Though I bust 'em a bit on Brian on occasion, no doubt im sure he's strong. 225 x 30 is top-tier.
I saw his bench vid from years ago, very strong pressing.

I will give credit when its deserved. He also gets into fantastic shape and stays there.
Dedicated...

That was 20 years ago and per Bhanky's rule it don't mean sh*t unless he can do it today, this hour, this minute, this second.

People should also be very careful meeting their ex-wives.

The meet ups can cause pec injuries. It puts you in a very vulnerable position.
