Seated vs Lying leg curl
« on: August 30, 2022, 02:11:15 AM »
So I'm going to buy a machine for my home gym. What's your favourite? I've always used lying but seated I started to use in the gym..definitely more comfortable but results are what counts.
Only experienced lifters need answer
Thanks.

I remember some dude complaining to Kev Levorne in some vid that they had to travel across town on certain days of the week

specifically because Kev wanted to use a seated leg curl at another gym

What the fuck are you talking about? Man you're a jackass
I'm talking results more muscle over the whole  muscle length.  I feel seated more on my lower hammy area. Lying I feel it all the way to my tight ass.
Answer the question properly or fuck off my thread you jackass

I favor those as well over seated.

I have a lying one, only reason being it has a leg extension in the same unit.

Lying is superior for ROM but it has to have the arch in centre. Only word of warning is for home gym watch your shins. Cut the absolute fuck out of mine slumping on it after squats etc or just not paying attn.

Both are useless because they target only part of the hamstrings, and do so in isolation from the gluteus. Do Romanian Deadlifts and save your money.

I do like these & alternate with Dumbbells but I do think you need some kind of curl variation in the mix. Mind you lunges are effective too for both quads & hammies.

I hate the seated ones, they just don't feel right, but that seems to be all you see in gyms these days.  I guess the lying ones take up too much room maybe.

While its not a 'top of the line' piece of equipment, the bench I bought pre-RONA works pretty well. (Pretty solid).
I was trying to save space as I only have 1-garage stall dedicated to my home gym.

So with this bench, it will incline, decline, and the leg-curl/leg-ext piece comes off, and I also have the preacher attachment for it.
(Which is pretty large/solid).

Decent enough for 150.00 for all of it... (Bench, preacher, leg attachment).
Once RONA  hit they were selling them for like 800.00.

From what I’ve read they reckon only the seated version works both the long and short head but most home seated leg curls would be shit unless buying a top end commercial machine even those vary the hammer strength one at current gym is infinitely times better thst the technogym shite at old gym. At home I’d get lying that doubles as a leg ext and pair the lying curls with stiff leg deads

I like the seated one more. Some seated ones really lock you in and you don't have expend any energy to stabilize the pelvis. Theoretically the seated might be superior due to what Henda said but also due to the seated stretching you hamstrings more. There is evidence that working a muscle in the lengthened range causes more hypertrophy than working in any shortened range. I'm not sure about the lying having a longer range of motion, feels the opposite to me.

Of course I do both, even if just a set of each. Then add a set of stiff leg deads or Romanians and you worked all the angles.

There's this silly brand where the seat moves up and down as you curl or press orr whatever, I forget the brand? But their seated curl locks you in so tight around your knees/pelvis - feels great.

Edit. Hoist brand. Anyone tried it?

Yes. Have you tried the seated leg curl? The machines are gimmicky I agree. But a lot of seated curls make you feel much less stable. I really like the way you can lock the pad under your knees real tight. I sometimes use Hammer seated and it feel like you're moving around a lot, just feels less stable. Here all energy goes into contracting the hams, almost feels dangerous how hard you can contract the hams.
