Super Wide Grip Pull-Ups
« on: October 27, 2022, 04:28:50 AM »
This exercise used to be touted as a mandatory movement, but has really has disappeared from bodybuilding. Bodybuilders are now too heavy to perform pull-ups

This. I do them close grip, low weight. It helps my shoulder mobility.

It's actually a bad idea to go wide on pull-downs or pull-ups based on the insertion and origin of the lats. You get way less range of motion and a far weaker contraction the wider you go.

Super wide anything feels really awkward.

It seems like the human body is built to explode with narrower hand positioning.

I think these were done in a era where training science was crude and folk mistakenly conflated width of grip with the width of back when in fact the opposite is likely true

I find the safest form of chin and that which engages the lats the most are shoulder width hammer grip style followed closely by underhand

i reckon the best would be on rings or something not fixed where you're able to rotate your wrists to its most comfortable position for your body/current mobility level

It´s a waste of time same as wide grip bench press. Medium grip better supinated under hand grip. sternum pull ups.

Hand positioning doesn't matter.

If the bodypart is meant to get big, it will get big no matter what you do.

You can get away with stuff like this in your prime but when you’re past it shit starts to tear.

Moderate weight lat pull downs for the win.

Problem being that not too many guys can do a full  pullup (gripping bar, palms facing out) or a chin up ( gripping bar, palms facing toward you) for reps.   Could write volumes about the value of each hand grip. But the best basic grip, sort of like the middle ground, may be the hammer grip, palms facing each other.

For men who find themselves lacking in strength for even one full rep, might suggest negatives (pull/chin ups), where the body is lowered starting from the top position of the bar  and slowly extended to the full stretch position at the bottom. The full stretch being very important in this method also.  We are much stronger in negative starting positions. Even BB curls, which is greatly overlooked for building strong and full biceps..

Good Luck

Are we really stronger in the Negative?

With a concentric rep, you have to apply enough force to move the weight in the opposite direction; whereas with a negative you’re just slowing the weight down.

IMO, you’re not really stronger in the negative. What you’re doing is just easier.

They're not too heavy. They're just too lazy.

Keven "Da Hulk" Washington does chins at well over three bills.
