I have the Rogue calibrated plates.  They are “calibrated” by two holes drilled in the back, which are filled in with plugs to get within the weight margin and the holes are taped over.

Just managing expectations here for anyone who buys these thinking they are machined with some super-accurate technique.  It’s a regular plate plus plugs, you’re paying for the time/effort that goes into that part.

How many ounce discrepancy is there?

This is a funny thread because I was going to buy calibrated plates from Rogue during Matte Vember or whatever they call it.

are they worth the money ?

They are advertised as being accurate to within 10 grams of the claimed weight (~0.025 lbs).  For the 45-lb plates I got the “HG 2.0 Bumper Plates” because I wanted to be able to do deadlifts off a hard floor, those have an advertised accuracy of 1% of the claimed weight.

I thought it was worth it if you consider that the usual tolerance on cheaper cast-iron plates can potentially be a big imbalance on a barbell if you get unlucky, and the price difference wasn’t that much.  For example 345 lbs of Rogue plates is $690 for the regular cast-iron plates and $1100 for the calibrated steel plates.

My brother for example has two cast-iron plates (I think they were from Rogue), one is 47 lbs and the other is 44 lbs.  Suppose you have two sets like that, you put 225 on the bar and one side is six pounds heavier than the other!

Or suppose you think you’re doing 225, one day it might be 221 and the next it’s 233 (:o)

I’ll pay a few hundred bucks extra for something that should last a lifetime to eliminate that.

He will soon meet people at the shows who will be way better than him then rather than trying to improve he will take the easy way out and quit, just like hes done with everything else hes tried.

Just like arm wrestling.

Realized he had no chance to win anything and now it's "curling".

Next it will be one legged seated calf raises, for reps.

If you trust your scale, calibrate it all, i.e., bar, collars, plates. Label them.  The scale can be calibrated by light calibrated weights. You'll hit 170lbs in 2023. Already so close.

Cmon is it that serious the plates have to be perfectly calibrated? Bhanky flexing how he's going to shell out a bunch of loot for these dumb plates. We're all going to be hearing about strict curl nonstop until he burns out on his latest obsession

Nah, the houseguest got him a $50 gift certificate for Christmas, so he is pretending he is a big shooter now.

I’ve been both in the fitness industry of sales and now more in the calibrated industry for the last 15 years.

Everything has a +/- of accuracy and uncertainty.   Always have and always will when you understand metrology.

Just do what most do and mark your plates + or - the value.

Unless you stack all the negative on one side and the positive on the other side of a huge max weight (powerlifting), it won’t make a big difference.

Do you plan on strict curling more than 225 pounds? That’s 2 45 pound plates per side, even if you used bumper plates how much more room would you need? Thin plates for a curling bar is a waste. Also it’s not like you’re benching or squatting heavy.

I noticed you posted a picture curling in jeans, shouldn’t you be lifting in a singlet in order to recreate meet settings?

Incremental adjustments would not require calibrated plates, regular plates would work fine in this case.

This was a good question for a novice home gymer.
Hope this helps.

Have you seen the ends of most curling bars? They are not long like a bench bar. I put a 45 and I can not put 3 more plates after I can't put 2 10's and a 2.5 and the clips or a 10 a 5 and a 2.5 . I have to go to directly to two 10s or the 25s. I am ordering incremental plates so I can make smaller adjustments but they are not going to fit I need thinner plates.
