I didn't watch the Palumbo video above, but if these rules were just drafted...then yeah, I'd say the lower tier Mr. Olympia placings/performances are what prompted this.

Or maybe the rules were revised earlier when it was realized that so many competitors qualified. This was the most ever, as far as I know. In 2002, they had 25 competitors, but I don't remember any year with 30+. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Some of them will qualify by winning a contest, then win another, allowing the 2nd place guy to grab a qualifying spot for the Olympia, or even potentially the 3rd place guy, depending on who are already qualified.

The number of fitness gals, and bikini boys (and classic) was off the charts this year.
Open BB went into the early AM of the next day (SUN) I think. Way too many.

The IFBB greed machine will take a hit (entrance fee's) but Im sure they'll make up for it.

I just went back and checked, and out of every Mr. Olympia in history, this year's Olympia had the most competitors ever. Maybe that's what prompted these changes, because they impact the length of the event?

Only 1991 exceeded 25 competitors, and 2002 had exactly 25.

I remember Wayne Demilia announcing in the 2002 Battle for the Olympia video that all 25 bodybuilders would receive a placing - rather than anyone outside or the top 15 being given 16th place.

Nope, only the winner, if someone wins multiple shows, then it's bad luck for the runner-up, he won't qualify.

Not even the Top 3 at the Arnolds qualify for the Olympia, only the winner, it's getting tough for the 3rd tier Pros

Dave Palumbo specifically covered this scenario in the video. Only the winners of pro shows will be allowed to compete in the Mr Olympia. Only the winner.

Being that each and every time either of them qualified for the Olympia it was done by winning a contest, I壇 say the chances are pretty good you値l see them back there again.
