This is exactly why I got hens,  this year. It does cost money to feed them and they are pretty spoilt. I see them as my pets. But the eggs they give me are large with yellow yolks. I have more than I need. I sold a couple of dozen before Christmas.
They are culling chickens in the USA because of bird flu. It’s just another way they are trying to starve us. There is no bird flu.

I would love to have chucks too , but north of Cairns eggs would attract snakes of all sizes .............almost weekly (when @ home) I spot a
very large Brown (over 2 M long)  .......... fruit trees attracts small birds & the beautiful green/yellow snakes hunts them ....
local snakes a gettin' larger ...............so no daily eggs for me .......

I saw a sign in WholeFoods yesterday stating, "Due to the national egg shortage, we are limiting purchases 2 per customer."

I don't eat eggs much these days so I grabbed an 18 pack of a high end, cage free, free range, lives in a mansion with a lambo egg and went about my business.

..anyone else having trouble finding them? We usually buy in bulk (5-15doz at a time) from either Costco or Sam’s but they’ve been out of stock for the most part. Same with regular grocery stores but when you find them paying a lot? This goes for whites as well

Eggs going up in price stems from a much deeper issue.  The demand increased due to families eating them as a protein substitute for beef, chicken, etc.  Sorry, no Biden or Trump to blame for this.  Leave the political bullshit out of it but we are heading for the recession

When we crack an egg open, are we aborting the baby chick that would've eventually hatched?

What about a Balut egg? That baby is much farther along in the process, yet humans still abort the fetus in the egg.

The egg is not fertilized so I'd say no.

And stop speaking gibberish.

Last weekend was the first time i'd seen halfway bare shelves at the store.

But this was in BFE Arizona.

The stores where i live have all been full. But more expensive.

Could be political if we think 50+ million chickens killed due to the "bird flu".  ::)

"I think what's happening is that major egg producers— not the local folks, because they're still harvesting their eggs in their backyard or the small plots and then selling them at a reasonable price— but some of these big companies are basically exploiting the potential to increase prices. It's gone up, as you say, 138%. Inflation is far, far less than that, so it's not inflation."

"Many factors play a role in increased egg prices, most notably the recent impact of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), which has significantly reduced the national hen supply, while consumer demand for shell eggs remains good," the statement read in part.

Reed, however, claims the avian flu outbreak is not the issue at hand for these producers. "What they're doing is, essentially, keeping their production level and just raising the price because it's an essential. Families need eggs. It's just a part of everyone's daily life."
