Are you saying that the Thai Police want to get rid of this case ASAP?
Rule it as a suicide and get on with it?
Don't want to waste time and effort on deviant foreigners i guess
The Thai police are basically a massive mafia gang. There's a few good cops and they do enforce the law unevenly - depending on how much money you have. They are also very sensitive to the tourist industry, so when tourists die here - it's suicide or Burmese or another foreigner. This one I'd put money on it being suicide/self inflicted and brushed under the carpet. The tourism industry is too massive a cash cow for them to let bad news out unless absolutely necessary.
Money talks...
- Moo Ham - purposely drove his car into a bus queue when people berated him for hitting the bus. He killed some and got away scot free.
- A rich dude driving a C63 hit a car with 2 people in and killed them while on meds that he wasn't supposed to drive on - got away with it.
- A guy in a Porsche hit a Cambodian girl so hard he cut her in half - got away with it.
- A woman I know (our kids hang out), hit a car which had a sleeping cop in it. She was ok but he died. She was an actress, didn't get breathalysed but she had been drinking and was driving recklessly - they basically just let her go that day and in court of course there was no evidence of wrongdoing
- The heir to the red bull fortune hit a cop in his Ferarri, whilst speeding, drunk and on coke, dragged him 200 meters didn;t stop and managed to leave the country where he will stay till statute of limitations is up - the police didn't try to make him stay in town - paid off
On the other hand, my Thai wife was in court today because some fella punched her in the face while she was out with her mates. He's looking at a year inside. The difference - he doesn't have the money or connections to make it go away.
So my take - he'll be seen as a tourist death and it'll be swept under the rug or they'll find a scapegoat if the press keep pushing it (which they don't seem to be doing) - that's normally reserved for female/couple deaths.
I've been here 23 years, never got a spot of bother but you never know what's around the corner in this place. But I have my numbers to call if I get into trouble, which should suffice.
