Gironda - Steak & Eggs

The First Versions of the Steak and Eggs Diet
Definition was most likely the first publication whereby Vince introduced the Steak and Eggs Diet, in which he called it the Maximum Definition Diet after the successful results he obtained from following this early form of a ketogenic diet. In this publication, Vince states the following in regards to the Steak and Eggs Diet:

“To begin with, all carbohydrates must be removed from a maximum definition diet. This means – all fruit, all vegetables, all salad greens, and all milk products. The only milk products that can be used are butter and cream. Any kind of meat, fish, or fowl and eggs are the only foods permissible. You must, however, eat some carbohydrates every four or five days because you will find that you will smooth out and veins and cuts will disappear. You will find also that you are not getting the pump you should and your strength will decrease. This is because a zero carbohydrate diet drains all the stored glycogen from the liver, and only carbohydrates will replenish it. But don’t try to eat a small amount of carbohydrates each day. You will only find that you are smoothing out”.

WOW! That is quite a bit of concentrated information to take in! In essence, Vince outlines some very basic rules regarding the Steak and Eggs Diet.

You can eat Animal proteins
You are not allowed to eat starchy carbs every day
You are not allowed to eat fruit or vegetables, ie fibrous carbs
You are not allowed to eat milk products except for butter and cream
You can eat carbohydrates every 4 or 5 days
Admittedly, although the rules to this diet are concise, they seem a little vague, to begin with. Let's have a look at his initial outline in Definition for a menu for the Steak and Eggs Diet:

Breakfast: Eggs no Limit, Meat no limit
Lunch: Same as breakfast
Dinner: Same as lunch
In this first mention of the Steak and Eggs Diet, there are basically no limits on what you can eat, as long as you eat Meat and Eggs. Simple. However, Vince never addressed how many carbohydrates you were allowed on your “cheat day”. This, as well as a more restricted menu, are described in his second mention of the Steak and Eggs Diet in his publication Vince Gironda’s Blueprint for the Bodybuilder:

“This has always been a strong man's favorite meal. No other meal combination produces the feeling of strength and energy (phosphorus in meat). Hamburger does not compete. The process of chopping up the meat destroys enzymes due to oxidation and other nutrients known and unknown. Beef and eggs sustain blood-sugar levels for six hours making lunch unnecessary. 3/4 pound of steak and 3-4 eggs supply 103 grams of first class protein fast, and is easy to digest. I personally achieved the best shape of my career on this diet. I used this diet for nine months, taking no supplements and with no adverse effects. I might add that after nine months of Definition Contest Training I found that I was growing - not just maintaining maximum condition. At this point, I can hear some of you complaining that this is not a balanced diet”.

Vince goes on to state: “Protein and carbohydrate are not compatible…..This is the reason I advise a spaghetti dinner (with tomato sauce only) every 72 hours on my Maximum Definition Diet”.

In Vince’s revised Steak and Eggs Diet, the menu looks like this:

Breakfast: 375gm Steak, 3-4 Eggs
Dinner: Same as Breakfast
Every 72 hrs have a meal of Spaghetti with sauce only
Vince basically ate only twice a day, stating that lunch was unnecessary, as the high-fat high protein diet that is the Steak and Eggs Diet would sustain his blood sugar levels, and therefore he would feel satiated until dinner time. Vince also reveals that he would recommend eating a pasta meal every 72 hrs for dinner, instead of a Steak and Eggs dinner. In my own opinion, this particular menu would satiate anyone. Imagen eating two enormous steaks every day with 3-4 eggs on the side!

Carnivore diet.

What I've found is that you lose bodyfat up to a certain point, then your body adjusts to the reduced caloric intake and fat loss ends.

Your intra-abdominal fat goes way down which is good.

Likely your metabolic rate adjusts.

I don't go out for breakfast very often (probably once a year), but when I do, steak & eggs.
The way they do it at breakfast places is always "fantastic"!!

That’s how most popular diets work.  The high fat diet, the fasting ones, the eat when hungry only, etc

You see results and then it adapts to it.

I think that's why the "cheat day" thing came around. Throw that adaptation off a little bit...

And possibly to provide macros that may be lacking.  I remember years ago the LBAs diet that was coming out of Pro M.  Just LBAs and a spoon of all natural peanut butter or MCT oil. By week two the results were evident and impressive.   By week three people were getting sick as hell off it.

my pre-contest diet is pretty much steak mince and eggs and 100gms oats every day apart from Staurday when I eat what I likew and add a bit of carbs

Next week I will be back on the steak mince and eggs and 250gms rice and some sauces on my meals to keep the calories up a bit

Carnivore is a great diet because you dont have to watch your macros or calories, its pretty much impossible to overeat

Have you ever had tests to see if it stresses your kidneys?

I can't stand any diet. I'm like a kid and I like to eat what ever I feel like. My appetite is also through the roof. When I hear people say they eat small meals I see that as torture.

Having said the above I have been dieting and when I'm not completely on I try to watch it. I went to close to my college weight when I was on the track team as a sprinter. No, I don't believe I have the same amount of muscle as I did but I do weigh close. Lost over 20 pounds and I thought I was in decent shape prior to losing the weight. I do miss the look I had in clothes. The thing is sometime you have to take that shirt off and there it is. The perma bulker fat muscular look.

I envy normal guys that don't give a shit and have a belly. I envy regular guys that look in the mirror and think they look good. The majority of guys are delusional concerning their looks. Most guys rate them self around an eight but in reality look like a gargoyle. Maybe that's an inbred genetic thing so guys have the confidence to approach women?

Most of kidney stones form due to high oxalate intake from eating plants

I take potassium citrate, it stops the formation of stones because it creates an alkaline environment in the body to counter they acidity from the high protein.

I also took it while I had the stones and it softened them enough for them to simply disintegrate when I had lithotripsy.
Specialist told me it would take around 16 sessions of litho to get rid of all the stones I had, it took 4

He even made a note of the Potassium I was taking to research it

One meal a day diet (OMAD) works for most people. You can eat whatever you want and as much as you want but just 1 meal a day.

Something I do occasionally in an effort to look good is to eat very clean on Mon. + Tues,....same thing on Wed. but I have one cheat meal in a moderate amount of course.....then once again, back to very clean eating on Thurs.,Fri.,Sat.,......then on Sunday eat whatever the fuck you want to eat, but don`t be stupid and eat a dozen pies or a few dozen hot dogs or too much stale pussy.

This way you stay "sane",and while most people don`t train on Sunday, you`ll have boundless energy for Mondays workout as long as you aren`t feeling lethargic from a few buckets of nice French Toast or such......keep the "cheats" in moderate portions but enjoy them......your condition will not suffer......this is not intended to use while contest prepping though, IMO.

No way .. as I get older most of the guys my age are getting fatter and when I meet someone and shake their hand and look them in the eye, dominance is immediately established as I am the one who is disciplined enough to take care of my body.

It’s funny, when I was younger I trained because I was insecure and didn’t like my body.  Now that I’m older I train because I love myself and what my body can accomplish
