Strange how when I first saw this guy he seemed to be a mass monster, and by today's standards he's just tiny.
Better symmetry than I remember him having too.
He was a lot bigger in 1987. Yet as you say, he's pretty symmetrical [aesthetic] there.
He reminds me of King Kamali in that respect - aesthetic at a lower body weight, but loses those lines at heavier body weights. Perhaps because his slim waist doesn't stay so slim as he puts on the size?
Meanwhile, Frank McGrath competed at the 2004 Toronto Pro at 242-lb, one year after getting his pro card as a superheavyweight, just above the max heavyweight allowable weight, which I believe is 225- and 1/4-lb.
McGrath had a 29" waist as a superheavyheight.

And his waist wasn't exactly massive at 242.
Even as McGrath got older, his waist likely didn't go above maybe 33" at most [if that].
I have a 29" waist at 170-lb, but I add one full inch to my waist for every 5-lb I gain.

So at 200-lb, my waist is 35".

However, thanks to the power of 17mg daily Anadrol, my waist was 33" at 205-lb last summer.

So obviously gear will help us put on mass in the right places - but there are limits to everything.
Eduardo Kawak [RIP] was a bodybuilder whose waist expanded as he put on size [1987] - but it's very impressive there! That picture must be from his NABBA Universe days in the earlier 1980's.
