Lawsuit against the Police
« on: July 25, 2023, 06:46:23 AM »
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Greg Gross, a Northern California man who was  paralyzed after he was arrested, handcuffed, and then slammed to the ground, won a $20 million settlement earlier this month against multiple defendants.  It is one of the largest police brutality settlements in the state’s history, according to officials.

The 65-year-old Army veteran who lives in Yuba City, sued the police department in 2022 after police officers used “pain compliance” techniques and expressed disbelief when he repeatedly cried out, “I can’t feel my legs.”

Police officers also dismissed Gross when he said, “I can’t breathe,” while being held facedown on the lawn outside a hospital, video released by Gross’s lawyers shows.

The lawsuit alleged that former Yuba City Police Officer Joshua Jackson was responsible for breaking Gross's neck, leaving him paralyzed after he slammed him to the ground during the traffic stop. It also names fellow officers Scott Hansen and Nathan Livingston, and Yuba City.

The lawsuit alleges Hansen assisted in Jackson's repeated brutality and that Livingston failed to intervene.

Me neither. You have all the videos of ppl running. , fighting being aggressive,  ignoring multiple  directives to stop then wonder why the cop  was arrested. Here's an idea..don't break the law. If you have an interaction with a cop be respectful n comply..even if you are wrong fight it in court

I dont see a slam of any type tbh.  He likely injured his neck when he hit the other car.  It takes a ton of pressure and impact to break someone's spine.  The takedown likely aggravated it but i dont find any issue with the arrest.

Im sorry to see what happenned to him but its important to remember that sometimes criminal actions have unintended consequencds

 ???

The man was standing upright and in full control of his legs beforehand.  After the takedown and “pain compliance” techniques he was unable to do so.  Pretty clear that the police caused the spinal injury.

The issue I have is that taxpayers are forced to bear the burden of these lawsuits.  I think police officers should be mandated to carry their own insurance for lawsuits like these.  If repeated reckless behavior renders the officer uninsurable, he or she can no longer work as a police officer.

He was in a car wreck prior to the takedown because he was driving drunk.  You cannot dismiss the possibility that it played a factor.   Taxpayers are responsible for the burden because they are providing a public service for citizens not to mention having no control over runaway lawsuits like this....20 million dollars???  Come on.  We are the only country that has shit like this.  I'm not saying he shouldn't be compensated but 20 million dollars is bullshit

That's what's left.  Liberals have ran out most of the good police officers and you're left with shit.   They get harrassed on a constant basis, yelled, mocked and screamed at, etc and get laughed at when they are shot and killed.  Everyime they arrest anyone, even if its for murder, it turns into a fucking protest and rioting.

What's going to happen is that the police will eventually become privatized and it will transition into independant security forces

Clearly children of fatherless homes.

You don't mouth off to teachers/fathers/boss's/cops.

Like I just don't get it.

Where did it ever come into anyones mind ever that you can win a pissing match with a cop.

I hear of shit like this and all I can think is we need more brutality.

You mouth off to your boss that's an instant fire, you mouth off to a cop, and you should expect a "negative" experience.

Mouthing off to people doesn't apply to cops.

Alright pretend I'm the mayor of gotbigdicksville. How are you gonna do better?

What's your great plan to find people who are willing to roll around on the dirt withs pedos/aids carriers etc on a weekly basis?

Not a math guy? That's ok but if you can't do maths and figure out where this supposed talent pool of white knights is coming from move along.
